Dani Olmo vs Declan Rice/Kobbie Mainoo
Dani Olmo has scored in all three of Spain’s knockout games so far and could prove to be the thorn in England’s side this weekend. Olmo has a knack of finding pockets of space with late runs into the box and his link-up play with widemen Yamine Lamal and Nico Williams has been exceptional.
England’s defensive midfielders could be in for a tough evening and Declan Rice is the most likely candidate to be tasked with keeping tabs on Olmo, although Kobbie Mainoo will have to play his part as well. Neither Rice nor Mainoo is necessarily a traditional holding midfielder but they will have to play in that role at regular intervals on Sunday.
Key Battle Bet – Declan Rice To Commit 2+ Fouls @ 2/1 with Betfair
Declan Rice is averaging 0.8 fouls per-game in the Euros but faces his toughest assignment so far against a mobile Spanish attack. He’s timed his challenges well in the knockout stages but the pace of Lamal, Williams and Olmo may force his hand a little and 2/1 looks a big price for at least two fouls from the Arsenal man.
Fabian Ruiz vs Phil Foden
Phil Foden had his best game of the tournament against the Netherlands in the last four and was agonisingly close to scoring two sublime goals but he was denied by the woodwork from range and by Denzel Dumfries on the line after jinking his way through the Dutch defence. Foden will come up against club team-mate Rodri and Fabian Ruiz in the Spanish midfield at regular intervals and it is perhaps his individual fight against the latter that is the most intriguing.
When it comes to insider knowledge the defensive player perhaps has the edge over the attacker, so Foden will probably try and target Ruiz rather than Rodri if he has the option and they may naturally come together more often as well as he lines up on the right of England’s attacking midfield and Ruiz is on the left of Spain’s holding pair.
Key Battle Bet – Ruiz to be shown a card @ 9/2 with Betfair
Ruiz has one card at Euro 2024, which came in the quarter-final clash with Germany, he’s committed four fouls across his last four games but may have to do a bit more defensive work than he has done in previous games. Foden has drawn three fouls across his last three games and if Ruiz is matched up against him regularly a card for the PSG man has real appeal at a big price.

Lamine Yamal vs Luke Shaw or Kieran Trippier
Lamine Yamal has dominated the headlines for Spain after starring in the knockout stages. The Barcelona attacker, who turns 17 on Saturday, provided assists in La Roja’s last 16 win over Georgia and the quarter-final victory over Georgia, before becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Euros with a wonder strike against France.
England have issues at left-back as Kieran Trippier picked up an injury in the semi-final win over the Netherlands so Luke Shaw could be handed his first start of the tournament in the showpiece. Trippier is more comfortable at right-back and there are obviously fitness concerns over both, given Shaw’s lengthy spell on the sidelines prior to the competition, so Yamal may well enjoy plenty of success marauding down the right flank for Spain.
