Boxing fans are in for a treat this weekend with an all-British heavyweight world title fight showdown between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium.

This may not be the Battle of Britain we were expecting this time last year but Anthony Joshua’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk and his subsequent decision to enact a rematch clause has opened the door for his old foe Whyte to finally get his shot at a title.

Fury is fighting in the UK for the first time since beating Francesco Pianeta on points at Windsor Park in Belfast in August 2018, and this is his first outing in England since a fourth round stoppage of Sefer Seferi in June of that year, and I’ve got a prediction for the main event and a 29/1 accumulator covering the undercard.

Where to watch Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte

The fight is a PPV event and the main event and undercard will be shown on BT Sport Box Office.

The build-up is due to begin at around 6pm and the main card will start at 7pm on BT Sport Box Office, costing £24.95. Viewers in the UK can watch the fight via BT TV, Virgin TV, Sky or online via the web or the BT Sport Box Office App.

Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte betting odds

Fury is the heavy 1/5 favourite with bet365 to win and Whyte can be backed at 7/2. A win via KO, TKO or Disqualification is 8/11 for Fury and 9/2 for Whyte, while the defending champion is 5/2 to win by decision or technical decision and Whyte is 18/1 to do the same. A draw of technical draw is 25/1.

Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte prediction and fight preview

Best Bet: Fury to win by decision or technical decision at 5/2

Fury is the heavy favourite to win and ultimately I am expecting him to retain his WBC title, but I am expecting a far closer contest than the odds suggest.

Since his incredible win over Wladimir Klitschko way back in 2015, it could be argued the only elite level opponent Fury has faced is Deontay Wilder – with one draw and two stoppage wins in what will surely go down as one of the great trilogies in the history of heavyweight boxing.

Whyte has had a long wait for his chance to challenge for a world title and has had a tough journey up to this point. ‘The Bodysnatcher’ has beaten a former world champion, ex-WBO king Joseph Parker, a couple of former world title challengers and avenged a defeat to Russian veteran Alexander Povetkin over the last few years and is more than ready to make a bid to become a world champion.

A Fury win inside the distance is odds-on in the method of victory market, perhaps due to the explosive nature of his fights with Wilder and the fact Whyte’s two losses so far have both been stoppages. However, I see this fight following a different pattern and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this fight go the distance – with Fury claiming the win on points.

Wilder boasts incredible power and seems to almost exclusively go for head shots, seeking that devastating show-stopping finish, so Fury countered that by closing down the distance and beating the American into submission with combinations. Whyte has a different approach and will try to land to the body early on to sap Fury’s energy, and I’m expecting the champion to counter that by using his superior reach and exceptional jab to stay out of danger as much as possible – while winning rounds in the process.

Whyte’s two losses to date may have come inside the distance, but the first of those came against arguably the best – and certainly the most aggressive – version of Joshua, and then Povetkin, when he was caught by surprise as he was himself pushing for a win. I doubt Fury will want to get drawn into a war and he doesn’t possess that kind of one-punch power anyway, so a points win for Fury looks the best bet.

Saturday’s boxing accumulator

David Adeleye vs Chris Healey – Over 3.5 rounds at 10/11

Rising star and knockout specialist David Adeleye takes on Chris Healy and it looks like this match-up has perhaps been made in an attempt to get a few more rounds under Adeleye’s belt. The 25-year-old heavyweight has a perfect record with eight wins in as many fights and has won seven of those inside the distance. After winning his first four fights inside three rounds, Adeleye has been taken to at least four in his three fights since.

Stockport’s Healy has eight defeats on his 17 fight record but has only been stopped twice, and only once has he failed to make it beyond the third round. Healy is also a southpaw, and that adds another element of difficulty into this match-up for Adeleye so this contest should at least see four rounds.

Tommy Fury vs Daniel Bocianski – Tommy Fury to win on points at 2/1

Tyson’s younger brother and former Love Island contestant Tommy Fury takes on Poland’s Daniel Bocianski in what could be a tricky clash. Bocianski has only lost one of his 11 fights, that was a stoppage defeat but Fury has needed the judges in his last two wins and this is probably his toughest assignment to date. There are only six rounds in this fight too, so it would be a big ask to secure an early finish in this short contest.

Isaac Lowe vs Nick Ball – Fight to go the distance at 1/2

Isaac Lowe and Nick Ball meet for the WBC Silver Featherweight title in what could be a great contest. Lowe is the slight favourite at 8/11, while Ball is rated at 1/1. Lowe has mixed it with the better opponents and has just one defeat on his record. Ball is unbeaten after 14 fights but this is by some distance his toughest clash to date.

I can’t make a call on this one, but I do expect it to go the full distance as neither of these fighters have particularly impressive knockout records. The ‘Westgate Warrior’ has managed six of his 21 wins inside the distance and Ball has seven stoppages in his 14 outings.

Lowe has been stopped himself, but that defeat came against a quality opponent in the shape of Luis Alberto Lopez and he should be a better fighter after that clash with the Mexican.

At a push I’d be tempted to back Lowe to win on points, but for the purposes of this acca simply backing the fight to go the distance looks the best option.
