There’s no time to be a football fan quite like pre-season. The potential and the unbroken promises – a long season of potential glory stretching ahead of you – present themselves before you’re reminded of how football always breaks your heart.

This pre-season there have been some stunning strikes already. Here are our favourites:

Nacer Chadli

The Spurs beaut smashed a pearler past AC Milan in Spurs’ final pre-season friendly. Lovely stuff.

Christian Benteke

The new Liverpool signing showed his tekkers with this ridiculous swivel and volley against Swindon Town. Ooosh!

Jordon Ibe

With Raheem Sterling now plying his trade in Manchester, Brendan Rogers will be hoping that Jordon Ibe steps up to fill the void. This mazy run and strike suggests he might well do that.

Harry Kane

The Spurs star has started pre-season as he ended 2014/15, with this positively Bale-esque run and smash.

Mats Hummels

Here’s the Dortmund centre back proving he’s pretty decent at the other end of the pitch.

Marco Reus

Hummels’ teammate Reus provided a touch of class to score his team’s second in their friendly against Juventus. MEGS!

Phillip Mexes

A volley from a corner, you say? An acrobatic volley from a corner from outside the box, you say? This from Mexes is Zlatanesque.

Marcel Ndjeng

You can’t argue with a volley from the halfway line, can you? Thwack.

Miralem Pjanic

We all know that Roma’s Pjanic is capable of superthwackers from miles out, so I’m not sure what Man City’s defenders were thinking standing off him so much…

James Rodriguez

The benefits of Ronaldo not being on the pitch means that the likes of James Rodriguez can step up to have a crack at a free kick every now and then. This one went quite well.
