Wimbledon 2022 outright predictions & tips with 83/1 winners double!

The 2022 Wimbledon Championships will get underway on Monday, with the world’s best players in the men’s and women’s game aiming to land Grand Slam glory at the All England Club.

Novak Djokovic is the reigning men’s champion and he is back to defend his title this year, but he is likely to face stiff opposition, most notably from old adversary Rafael Nadal.

Ashleigh Barty lifted the women’s title 12 months ago, but she has since retired, with French Open champion and world number one Iga Swiatek perhaps now being the one to beat, although she is yet to fully prove herself on grass.

83/1 Wimbledon 2022 men & women’s double

Wimbledon 2022 men’s outright predictions

Berrettini well placed for Grand Slam breakthrough

Best bet – Matteo Berrettini to win at 11/2

Matteo Berrettini is yet to win a Grand Slam title, but the Italian has proven credentials on grass and he could be ready to go all the way this year.

The world number 11 made it through to the final at SW19 last year and he took the opening set against Djokovic in that contest before the Serbian’s Grand Slam know how took over.

Berrettini will have learned a lot from that experience and he is certainly enjoying playing on grass, with four of his last five titles coming on the surface.

Two of those successes have come in the build up to Wimbledon this year, as he followed up victory at the Stuttgart Open by defending his title at Queen’s last week.

Those are the only two tournaments the 26-year-old has played since returning from hand surgery, which means he will head into the third Grand Slam of the year on a nine-match winning streak.

After spending three months on the treatment table, Berrettini should also be fresher than most for Wimbledon, something that could stand him in good stead as the tournament progresses.

Hurkacz a potential dark horse

Best bet – Hubert Hurkacz eachway at 14/1

A little further down the betting and Polish star Hubert Hurkacz could be a value choice to land his maiden Grand Slam title.

The 25-year-old, who will be seeded seventh this year, made it all the way through to the semi-finals 12 months ago, beating Roger Federer in straight sets along the way before being denied a place in the final by Berrettini.

Hurkacz certainly appears at home on grass and he underlined those qualities by beating world number one Daniil Medvedev to land his first title on the surface at this month’s Halle Open.

The 6 ft 5 in 25-year-old has the serve and power to be a real threat on grass for years to come, a favourable draw this year could see him break new ground in a Grand Slam.

Wimbledon 2022 women’s outright predictions

Gauff ready to seize chance

Best bet – Cori Guaff to win at 12/1

At first glance, world number one Swiatek looks the obvious choice to go all the way in the women’s draw at Wimbledon, as she heads into the championships on a 35-match winning streak.

However, the Pole has never been beyond the fourth round at the All England Club and despite excelling on clay and hard courts, she is yet to make it to the final of a WTA event on grass.

That should open the door for other challengers to go all the way at SW19, and American teenager Coco Gauff certainly falls into that category.

The 18-year-old burst onto the scene when beating Venus Williams at Wimbledon in 2019, as she made it through to the fourth round, while she repeated that trick two years later, only missing out on a place in the quarter-finals after losing to former champion Angelique Kerber.

Since then, Gauff has risen to a career-high number 12 in the world rankings, while she underlined her Grand Slam credentials by reaching the final of the French Open earlier this month.

That run at Roland Garros will have boosted Gauff’s belief ahead of Wimbledon, where fond memories could also inspire her to go all the way.

Kvitova could roll back the years

Best bet – Petra Kvitova eachway at 20/1

There is no doubting Petra Kvitova’s Wimbledon credentials, as the Czech star is a two-time former champion at the All England Club, although the last of those successes did come eight years ago.

It hasn’t been a memorable 2022 to date for the 32-year-old, as he was knocked out early at both the Australian and French Opens, while she has slipped to 31st in the world rankings.

However, there are signs Kvitova is returning to form ahead of Wimbledon, as she has made it through to her first semi-final of the year at this week’s Eastbourne International and a first WTA title in 15 months could now await.

That would certainly hand Kvitova plenty of momentum to take into the third Grand Slam of the year and she is a player that cannot be written off on grass.
