Denmark vs Tunisia – Denmark over 1.5 team goals at 8/11

Denmark were the became the neutrals’ favourites in Euro 2020 and last summers’ surprise package should get off to a comfortable start against Tunisia.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side have beaten France twice recently and have won five of their last seven overall. They have scored at least two goals in six of their last eight games and underdogs Tunisia have shipped twice or more in five of their last seven World Cup fixtures, not to mention losing 5-1 against Brazil in September.

Uruguay vs South Korea – Uruguay to win at 3/4

Uruguay should be considered dark horses in Qatar given the strength of their side. Making the last 16 at least shouldn’t be a problem for them, with beatable opposition in Group H in the shape of Ghana and South Korea.

In Russia four years ago South Korea shocked Germany, but they lost their opening two games before that to Mexico and Sweden. Star man Heung-min Son is set to play through injury, while manager Paulo Bento failed to get Portugal through the group stage in 2014.

Uruguay have won six of their last eight games at the World Cup and they meet a South Korea side who have lost six of their previous nine. Given the gulf in quality and tournament history, Uruguay are good value for the points.

Brazil vs Serbia – Over 2.5 goals at 4/5

Brazil are favourites to win both G and the World Cup outright but they face a tricky opener against Serbia.

The Eastern Europeans qualified ahead of Portugal, thanks in no small part to their dynamic striking duo of Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic, and they netted 13 times in six Nations League games this summer.

Brazil themselves are no strangers to high-scoring affairs, with five of their last seven games going over 3.5 goals. As a result, the shade of odds-on about their being three or more goals in this encounter makes plenty of appeal.

Switzerland vs Cameroon – Switzerland to win at 7/10

Switzerland have reached the knockout stage in three of the last four World Cups and, although they could be in for a tough time in Group G this year, they should have enough to see off Cameroon in their opener.

The Swiss finished above Italy during World Cup qualifying and they signed off from their most recent Nations League campaign in style, winning their last three games against Portugal, Spain and Czech Republic.

Murat Yakin will be keen to make an impact in his first World Cup in charge and will emphasise the importance of getting off to a winning start with games against Serbia and Brazil to come afterwards.

At a shade of odds-on, they are a fine bet to defeat Cameroon, who are down in 43rd spot in the Fifa world rankings.

Morocco vs Croatia – Croatia to win at 1/1

It may be fanciful to suggest that Croatia can reach the final as they did in Russia four years ago, but Zlatko Dalic’s team look a solid proposition for their Group F opener against Morocco.

They head to the tournament having beaten both France and highly-fancied Denmark in recent Nations League away matches and appear to have the right blend of youth and experience to at least make the knockout stage.

That big-game knowledge should stand them in good stead, while their opening north African opponents may be up against it.

Morocco reached the quarter-finals of last season’s Africa Cup of Nations and, while they have kept clean sheets in friendlies against Paraguay and Chile recently, they lack recent action against teams outside their own continent.

A 3-0 friendly win over Georgia would have given them a boost, but this is a much tougher assignment.
