When is the K-League season?
The South Korea K-League season normally runs from March until November, but the 2020 campaign is set to kick off on May 8th and end six months later on November 8th.
Which teams are in the South Korea K-League?
The South Korea K-League consists of 12 teams, with the winners qualifying for the AFC Champions League group stage and 2nd and 3rd place progressing to the AFC Champions League playoff round.
Normally the bottom two teams are relegated. However, in 2020 the bottom-placed team will be relegated along with Sangju Sangmu, who have confirmed they will be moving franchise city in 2021 and are therefore automatically relegated for next season. The 12 teams involved in the South Korea K-League 1 are:
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Ulsan Hyundai, FC Seoul, Pohang Steelers, Daegu FC, Gangwon FC, Sangju Sangmu, Suwon Samsung Bluewings, Seongnam FC, Incheon United, Busan IPark and Gwangju FC.
Who has won the most K-League titles?
The 2020 K-League 1 season will be the 38th season of top division football in South Korea, with numerous alterations to its format taking place since Hallelujah FC won the first title back in 1983.
Seongnam FC are the most successful team in the K-League history, winning the title seven times and finishing as runners up on three occasions. However, their last title success was back in 2006 and they are expected to be eclipsed as the most successful side this season.
That’s because reigning champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, who have won each of the last three titles, are also on seven K-League victories. Having won five of the last six titles, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are on track to claim a record 8th K-League crown in 2020.
