109/1 Away wins accumulator for the return of club football

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

With the end of March’s international break approaching, club football’s return this weekend marks the beginning of the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

While the Premier League’s return is another week away, this weekend’s slate includes the FA Cup quarter-finals alongside some key clashes in the EFL and across the continent.

I’ve taken an early look at next weekend’s fixtures and picked out six away sides to back in our 109/1 Road Warriors accumulator. This tip has been priced up with bet365, who are offering this great offer to new customers.

Road Warriors Long Haul

Friday – Strasbourg vs Lyon

Two of Ligue 1’s form sides face off on Friday night as the pair chase a Champions League spot. Only two points split fifth-placed Lyon from Strasbourg in seventh. The visitors have won each of their last five games across all competitions and five of their previous six in Ligue 1.

Strasbourg are in good form but they’ve lost four of their six clashes with the top five. Lyon won at fourth-placed Nice in their last away game and they can improve on a strong away record with another three points.

Friday – Sheffield United vs Coventry

Sheffield United have boosted their title chances with three wins from four, but the Blades have posted some shaky underlying numbers in that good run. Chris Wilder’s side have suffered four defeats in five clashes with their fellow top-four sides and they’ve recorded one win against the rest of the top six.

Coventry went into the international break in stellar form and they’ve won six of their previous seven matches under Frank Lampard. The Sky Blues have won four of their previous five trips and their good run has marked them out as a real threat in the playoffs.

Coventry have picked up just three fewer points than the Blades since Lampard took charge and the hosts have lost to Leeds, Burnley and Hull across their previous nine home matches.

Saturday – Lecce vs Roma

Roma’s rise under Claudio Ranieri has left them just four points shy of the Champions League spots and the Giallorossi return to action having won eight of their previous 10 games.

Roma have won six on the bounce in Serie A and they head to a Lecce side who are on a four-game losing streak. The hosts have suffered six defeats in eight meetings with the top 10 at home, while their record at their own ground is the fourth-worst in Serie A.

Saturday – Exeter vs Wrexham

A kind run of games has allowed Exeter to put together an unbeaten run, but the 16th-placed side are worth opposing against Wrexham. The Welsh outfit picked up their fourth win in five on Saturday to lift them back into the automatic promotion spots.

Wrexham’s away record is mixed but they’ve been strong at bottom-half teams. Opponents Exeter have lost six of their eight home encounters with the top-10 and they’re unlikely to contain the visitors.

Sunday – Getafe vs Villarreal

Sunday’s clash with Getafe is vital for a Villarreal side who have lost successive matches. Spain is almost certain to have a fifth Champions League spot and Villarreal are in pole position to claim it, although their recent defeats have allowed Real Betis to move level on points with them.

Villarreal have won seven of their 11 visits to sides below them, while Getafe have mustered just 12 goals from 14 home matches this term. The hosts have a poor record against teams in the top half, so Villarreal can claim another win on the road.

Sunday – Preston vs Aston Villa

Aston Villa have the chance to secure a trip to Wembley to top off an already incredible season. The Villains are impressing across three competitions at the minute, having won four consecutive matches ahead of the international break.

Preston have impressed on their way to the last eight of the FA Cup, but they’re yet to face Premier League opposition. Pulling off an upset against a Champions League quarter-finalist will likely be too big an ask for the Championship outfit, so Villa can extend their winning streak.
