Our first leg got underway earlier than the rest of our games at 17:45, Nancy hosted Guingamp at home in the French Cup and we was hoping the goals would rain in to get our acca off to a great start. Things got off to a great start as Guingamp opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Rodelin, with both of these sides sitting at the bottom of their respective leagues we remained confident that we would see a Nancy goal this and although it came later than we hoped it did eventually! In the 67th minute N’Guessan got the home side back in this game and managed to push them through to extra time but ultimately pushing our acca on to the next leg!
Domestic cup fixtures made up 3 quarters of our selections for Tuesday’s both teams to score accumulator with the 2nd leg coming from the Portuguese Taca da Liga where Benfica faced off against Porto. These sides are arguably the best two in Portugal and they sit at the top of their league with Porto operating the top position and it didn’t take the league leaders long to find the net taking the lead in the 24th minute through Brahimi but they didn’t stay ahead for long as Rafa Silva brought Benfica level just 7 minutes later to tick our second leg off.
We returned to the French Cup again in our 3rd leg were Monaco welcomed Metz to the Stade Louis II were they was hoping to get a win and restore some confidence to a side that was sitting 19th in the league. However the task wasn’t going to be easy as they faced the Ligue 2 leaders and that showed with Metz taking the lead in the 32nd minute through Hein who put the pressure on the Monaco squad desperate for a victory. It didn’t take the home side long to respond and with the quality they had in the side it was no surprise either with Falcao bringing them level and taking our acca to the last leg.
Finally we went to England for our only domestic league game featured in the acca which saw Plymouth Argyle take on Walsall in the EFL League One, not everything went to plan for us in this fixture with the game remaining goalless at half time and our confidence lowering as the minutes ticked by. 10 minutes into the second half though our confidence was renewed when Edwards managed to find the net and give Plymouth the lead, leaving us needing just one Walsall goal to bring us home a winner. As the game went on we continued to worry whether it would come but here at FST we love late goals and we were treated to one when Walsall’s number 9 slotted home in the 82nd minute to land our 11/1 BTTS Acca!
