It’s been a couple of months since that fateful night at Wembley and with the wounds of the Euro 2020 Final beginning to heal England cast their eyes to the future on Thursday as their World Cup qualifying campaign continues in Hungary.

Gareth Southgate’s men aren’t expected to have any issues qualifying from Group I and have already taken a maximum of nine points from three games, but this week they will test their mettle in possibly the two most difficult games of the qualifying campaign.

They visit Hungary first and end the first international break of the season with a trip to Poland, with these two potentially tough ties sandwiching a much more favourable home game against minnows Andorra.

With the Three Lions back in the saddle we’ve entered the fray with a tasty looking 17/2 Bet Builder for Thursday’s tie.

England to win

England have already won three from three in their World Cup qualifying campaign and they return to action with a record of 11 wins from their last 13 games in total.

Hungary sit second in the group and managed to hold both Germany and France to draws in Euro 2020 but the hosts are missing a few key defenders in Loic Nego and Grego Lovrenczics and aren’t expected to keep England at bay.

Southgate has selected a strong squad and the beaten Euro 2020 finalists will be itching to get back to winning ways.

Both teams to score

England may have put in a few defensive masterclasses in the Euros but they conceded in their last World Cup qualifier at home to Poland as well as conceding to both Denmark and Italy over the summer. In fact, they have conceded in six of their last 14 competitive matches and their clean sheets during this period include fixtures against Albania, San Marino and Iceland.

Hungary found the net against France and Germany in Euro 2020 and have scored in eight of their last nine competitive matches, while they also have highly-rated RB Leipzig youngster Dominik Szoboszlai back from injury and aiding the attack.

Raheem Sterling to score anytime

Raheem Sterling was England’s saviour in the early stages of Euro 2020 as he scored three goals in the first four matches and he has netted for Manchester City this season despite only starting one game.

The Manchester City attacker seems to thrive under Gareth Southgate and has 15 goals and 11 assists in his last 23 England appearances.

Roland Sallai to have 1+ shot on target

Roland Sallai was one of Hungary’s standout performers in their surprisingly spirited showing at Euro 2020, with the Freiburg attacker testing the keeper in all three group games against Portugal, France and Germany.

He has hit the target in two of his three Bundesliga appearances this season, meaning he has only failed to have a shot on target in five of his last 19 appearances.
