1,975/1 golf double for British Masters & Wells Fargo Championship

This week’s PGA Tour action comes in the shape of the Wells Fargo Championship and we’ve got the British Masters to look forward to on the DP World Tour.
Racing Post golf expert Steve Palmer has picked his winners for each event and as he’s gone for an outsider in the Wells Fargo his selections combine for a huge 1,975/1 double, which as always he recommends backing as an each-way bet.
1,975/1 Golf each-way double
The DP World Tour stages the Betfred British Masters from The Belfry this week for a tournament headlined by Danny Willett and Lee Westwood.
The English duo – the 2016 Masters champion and a former world number one – will command huge galleries.
Punters are best advised to focus elsewhere, though, and Adrian Meronk is nominated as the first component of this week’s each-way double.
Meronk has finished third in his last two DP World Tour events – the Qatar Masters and the Catalunya Championship – and the giant Pole appears ready to make his breakthrough.
He came close at The Belfry last year, finishing only one shot shy of the Sunday playoff between Richard Bland and Guido Migliozzi, and Meronk will be relishing the chance to attack the same course over the next four days.
Tee-times could have a significant bearing on this week’s PGA Tour gathering – the Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Potomac.
Heavy rain is forecast for the Friday afternoon, so players who get a morning start for round two could have an advantage. With this in mind, the advice is to pair 25/1 chance Meronk with 75/1 poke Matthew NeSmith.
TPC Potomac seems a perfect fit for NeSmith, an accurate, tidy player who can stay out of trouble on this tight, fiddly, par-70 track.
NeSmith led the Valspar Championship for a long way in March, carding a second-round 61 on his way to third place, then he followed up with four solid rounds for 12th place in the Heritage last month.
Last time out in the Zurich Classic, NeSmith partnered Taylor Moore to a share of fourth place, so the maiden has arrived at TPC Potomac bursting with form and confidence. In a field lacking much star quality, NeSmith could be the second leg of a 1,975/1 double.
