25/1 & 18/1 Sentry Tournament of Champions each-way tips

There is just one golf tournament to look forward to this week as the PGA Tour heads to Hawaii for the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

We’ve called on Racing Post expert Steve Palmer for his thoughts ahead of the event and he’s picked out two each-way options at 25/1 and 18/1. Read on to see who he thinks could be a contender at the Plantation Course.

FST golf fans will have to wait a little longer for a chance to get back in the mix with our favourite wager – the each-way double – because this week there is only one tournament to attack.

The DP World Tour will pick up speed soon, but this week the PGA Tour takes centre stage, with the Sentry Tournament of Champions from Hawaii.

The Plantation Course at Kapalua on the island of Maui hosts 39 of the PGA Tour’s finest, with Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay all in attendance.

The best bets may be below that illustrious quintet, with Jordan Spieth and Sungjae Im nominated as a dynamic duo who could trouble the market leaders.

Spieth, a general 25/1 for Sentry glory, has fond memories of Kapalua. He won the tournament by an incredible eight shots in 2016 in only his second appearance.

That success came after a runner-up finish on his debut, then he offered a stout title defence in 2017 and finished third. Spieth has been full of beans since ending up as top scorer in the Presidents Cup at the end of September.

Winning five points for his country has injected some fresh confidence and he kept himself busy by teeing up in three events last month.

The forecast breeze will excite the Texan and he might upset the market leaders.

Im is slightly shorter in the betting – a general 18/1 – and the Korean will have high hopes of carrying his excellent form from the second half of 2022 into the new year.

Im finished second in the 3M Open, second in the Wyndham Championship and second in the Tour Championship.

Those near-misses could be followed by a trophy at a venue where he has solid form figures of 5-8.
