The pick of Monday’s action comes from La Liga, with Villarreal starting off their domestic campaign after losing to Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.
The Yellow Submarine should pick themselves up after a tough night in Belfast, but can they see off another Spanish side who made a deep Europa League run? We’ve backed them in our Villarreal vs Granada predictions, but we’ve also put together a 40/1 bet builder which you can back below.
Villarreal vs Granada bet builder tip
Villarreal vs Granada bet builder selections
- Over 3.5 Goals
- Moreno to score
- Trigueros to make an assist
- Machis 1+ shots on target
- Over 2.5 Granada corners
With Villarreal coming off a 120 minute workout in Belfast we can see an open game in their La Liga opener. It helps that they meet the side who had the worst defensive record in the division last term. Granada saw both teams score in their final 11 trips last season. Villarreal had a really high-scoring run of preseason games, so back over 3.5 goals here.
Goals are to be expected with Gerard Moreno around. The Villarreal striker scored 23 goals and made seven assists in La Liga last term. After scoring two goals every three games on average last season there’s value Moreno to score anytime.
Manu Trigueros chipped in with seven assists for Villarreal last season and the central midfielder is a good bet to start the season in the same form. With Granada conceding more goals from open play than any other side last season, back openings for Trigueros to make an assist.
We don’t expect this to be all Villarreal going forward and Granada should get chances too. Darwin Machis is adept at coming in off the wing and testing the goalkeeper, averaging 0.7 shots on target per match last term and 0.8 the season before that. Villarreal’s busy midweek should lead to openings, so expect Machis to have at least one shot on target.
Granada managed to take 65 corners in only 19 away games last season, a rate of over three per game. With an open game expected, we’re finishing off our bet builder with over 2.5 Granada corners. Villarreal conceded 68 in their 19 home La Liga games last term, so there should be plenty of corners for the visitors.
