87/1 Winners Double for this week's Golf
With Majors season in the rearview mirror and the Olympics on the horizon, the big guns take a break this week but the PGA Tour season rumbles on at the 3M Open while links action continues on these shores with the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie.
Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has taken a look at both events to put together a winners double which pays out at 87/1.

3M Open winner prediction – Akshay Bhatia at 20/1
The Olympics does not count towards the FedEx Cup, so just two events remain of the PGA Tour’s regular season and the race for a place in the playoffs ramps up at the 3M Open, staged as it has been since 2019 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
Tournament favourite and 2022 champion Tony Finau missed the cut at the Open but that could be a blessing in disguise because those who toiled around Troon – Billy Horschel, Justin Rose and Thriston Lawrence included – are in for a different test this week.
Five previous editions of this tournament have been settled by an average winning total of 19.2 under par and runaway winner Lee Hodges reached 24-under last year, combining pinpoint iron-play with a hot putter.
Finau looks a worthy favourite but preference is for Akshay Bhatia, who has few weaknesses and is particularly impressive on approach and on the greens.
Bhatia has quickly won two PGA Tour titles – last season’s Barracuda Championship and the Texas Open in April – and he came close to a third when finishing runner-up at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in June.
While the 22-year-old blew a golden chance on that occasion, he has the self-belief to bounce back quickly and a missed cut at Troon is of little concern given his lack of links experience.
Senior Open winner prediction – Padraig Harrington at 16/5
After Xander Schauffele’s Troon triumph, it’s the turn of the veterans to tackle a famous links layout as the Senior Open Championship heads to Carnoustie for the first time since 2016.
Conditions look more favourable than they were at Troon but the Championship Course is still considered to be just about the toughest on the Open rotation and those with links pedigree are the ones to concentrate on.
When it comes to winning at Carnoustie, one man who sticks out like a sore thumb and that’s Padraig Harrington, who claimed the Claret Jug at the venue in 2007 before following up at Royal Birkdale the following year.
A true links master, Harrington landed top senior honours with a remarkable 22nd-placed finish at Troon and he’s had back-to-back runner-up finishes in his two starts in the Senior Open.
He fully deserves to be the favourite and can go one better.
