Elite domestic football takes some time to put its feet up this week as the first international break of the season takes centre stage, with key fixtures across World Cup qualifying and the final stages of the UEFA Nations League.
It’s the latter that is getting our attention here, and we have tasked four experts to pick out their favourite bet from the midweek round of Nations League action.
Back our 32/1 Ahead of the Curve acca here!

I expect Austria to obtain a first-leg lead at home to Serbia as they have grown into the Nations League this season after a slow start. Impressive wins at the Euros over Poland and the Netherlands were encouraging and, having beaten the Serbians in a friendly before that tournament, they can see off a team who have won just one of their last nine games.

Belgium have won only once since drawing 0-0 with Ukraine in neutral Germany at last summer’s Euros so can’t be fancied against the same nation in neutral Spain. Ukraine look strong whereas new Red Devils’ boss Rudi Garcia has inherited a golden generation which has lost all of its lustre – and many of its stars.
Dan Childs
I fancy Portugal at odds-against to win the first leg of their quarter-final away to Denmark. Portugal were unbeaten in Group A1 and, given their hugely talented pool of players, they have every chance of going all the way. Denmark scraped second place in Group A4 but I would expect them to fall short against a technically superior side.

Greece put in an excellent shift to match England’s points tally in League B Group 2 and they should be backed to get a first-leg win over Scotland, who have only won two of their last eight away matches.
The hosts have beaten Republic of Ireland twice and England at Wembley over the past 12 months and have only lost two of their last 14 at home, including an impressive draw against France in November 2023.
