The Champions League returns with a revamped format this week as the group stages are no more and instead a league will decide the first round.

We’ve assembled a small team of experts for their best midweek picks ahead of the return of Europe’s premier competition. Two of our team have opted for Liverpool, so this tip is a three leg bet with a game on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Liverpool are a good price to take all three points from their trip to Milan. Last season’s Serie A runners-up are yet to win this season, drawing against Torino and Lazio either side of a shock defeat to Parma. They have conceded twice in each of these games, while Liverpool are purring under Arne Slot and have won all three games by an aggregate scoreline of 7-0.

Aaron Ashley

Liverpool look a fair price at a shade of odds-on away at Milan, whose opening three games in Serie A have seen them held to 2-2 draws with Torino and Lazio and suffer a 2-1 defeat at Parma. The Reds have barely put a foot wrong so far under Arne Slot, winning all three of their Premier League matches to nil, and all of their star players seem to have hit the ground running.

Jamie Griffith

Bayer Leverkusen to win and both teams to score in their clash with Feyenoord. Xabi Alonso’s men had their 43-game unbeaten streak snapped by Leipzig but, with the talent in their squad, the Bundesliga champions should still prove too strong for their hosts in Rotterdam. However, Feyenoord have scored 11 goals in four games this term and should net in defeat.

Gareth Freeman

Borussia Dortmund at odds-against to win at Club Brugge looks a solid bet. After reaching the final last season BVB will want to hit the ground running in Europe and they’ve made a decent start this year with three wins and a draw in four games, they should have a bit too much for their Belgian hosts.
