Both Manchester City and Arsenal dropped points for the second Premier League gameweek in a row before the international break, allowing Liverpool to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points.

With Arne Slot hitting the ground running at Anfield and both their rivals in the doldrums, we have asked three experts whether they think that the Reds title-favouritism is justified.

Definitely. Arsenal look a shadow of the side that pushed Manchester City all the way last season and the defending champions are in tatters, battling an ongoing injury crisis and on their worst run of form since Pep’s first season in charge.

The five-point cushion Liverpool hold is already looking like a mountain to climb.

Liam Flin

Most definitely. The Reds have quickly adjusted to Arne Slot’s style of play and are firing on all cylinders at the moment.

They have excellent depth in all departments, meaning they should handle absences better than Man City and Arsenal, who have both been shadows of the teams they were last season.

James Mason

Yes. Their haul of ten points from four games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Aston Villa after the October international break was hugely impressive.

Manchester City’s standards have dropped significantly without the injured Rodri and, while Arsenal should improve with Martin Odegaard back, they are already nine points behind Arne Slot’s Reds.
