Tiger Woods’s Hero World Challenge headlines a double helping of action this week and while the great man is not among those teeing it up in the Bahamas, we are treated to the return of golf’s current top dog.

Scottie Scheffler dominates the betting at Albany GC while there is high-class DP World Tour action taking place in South Africa as the Nedbank Challenge returns to Gary Player Country Club.

Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has taken a look at both events to put together an each-way double which pays out at 187/1.

Hero World Challenge winner prediction – Justin Thomas at 10/1

Scheffler’s incredible year has one final chapter still to play out as the world number one bids to retain the Hero World Challenge title at a course where he has form figures of 2-2-1.

Held as a benefit for the Tiger Woods Foundation, this invitational event features an elite 20-man field who tend to score well around Albany, with an average winning total of 19 under par in the eight editions to have been played at the wide-open coastal course.

It’s hard to find fault with the 5-2 favourite, who defied a three-month break to win this last year, and there’s every chance he will add to the eight victories he’s claimed in 2024.

However, Woods’s close friend Justin Thomas, looks a better each-way bet as he aims to lay down a marker as he bids to get back to the very top of the game in 2025.

The last two years have been littered with inconsistent results for the two-time Major winner but he still did enough to reach the Tour Championship, where he finished 14th, then he was a runner-up to Nico Echavarria in the Zozo Championship at the end of October.

While six visits to Albany have yet to yield a win, Thomas has progressive course form figures of 11-12-5-5-5-3, underlining his suitability for the venue.

Thomas has always been productive at coastal venues – his first two PGA Tour wins came in the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, he is a two-time winner of the Sentry at Kapalua and he also won the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Nedbank Challenge winner prediction – Thriston Lawrence at 16/1

One of the DP World Tour’s most lucrative events has once again attracted attention from a number of PGA Tour stars with Corey Conners and defending champion Max Homa taking high rank in the betting at Gary Player Country Club.

Laser-like Conners is a great fit for this ultra-long tee-to-green test but he doesn’t win often and preference is for a home hopeful who has had no problems getting over the line in recent seasons.

Thriston Lawrence has won four DP Wold Tour titles over the last three years, including two in his native South Africa, and has had another impressive season, bagging a PGA Tour card with a third-place finish on the points list.

While he hasn’t won in 2024, Lawrence is a five-time runner-up, including when beaten in a playoff at Wentworth, and he should build on a couple of solid Nedbank spins having placed 13th and 24th over the last two years
