Manchester City midfield lynchpin Rodri has was crowned as the winner of the Ballon d’Or award last month but any chance of back-to-back awards for the Spanish star already appear to be over.

Rodri is out for the entirety of the campaign, which leaves the battle for next year’s individual honour wide open and it could be worth taking an early look at the contenders for now.

We asked a team of our experts for their early pick for the Ballon d’Or 2025. All prices quoted come from bet365 and new customers can take advantage of their sign-up offer using the button below.

Joe Champion – Lamine Yamal at 6/1

There is a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and then but if Yamal can keep his current levels of performances over the next 12 months he can scoop it. He is an absolutely sensational talent and he is a joy to watch each and every time he plays.

James Mason – Jude Bellingham at 20/1

Jude Bellingham was long touted as the favourite for the 2024 award and after missing out on the individual accolade, he could make amends by taking the honours next year. The England international continues to thrive at Real Madrid and if he can help Los Blancos to European and domestic success, then the Ballon d’Or could be heading his way.

Ian Wilkerson – Erling Haaland at 5/1

I suppose it depends on how everyone reacts to Real Madrid giving the ceremony the bird this week. Trying to anticipate who is going to win a popularity contest is always tricky, so it is impossible to have much confidence, but the bigwigs could decide that it’s Erling Haaland’s turn beings as there is no international tournament that he will fail to qualify for this summer and Manchester City could win the Champions League.
