Best Daily Football on TV this week (with 36/1 acca tip!)
Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.
The first full week of January brings another busy week of football. With so many sports channels and live games competing for your attention, it’s often hard to simply pick one to watch.
Luckily we’ve taken away those minor stresses with our weekly TV picks. We’ve picked out six games spread across the week that you should clear your calendar for. To sweeten the deal, we’ve also got a tip for each of our TV picks which total up to a 36/1 accumulator.
You can see our TV Picks accumulator below, while you can see more tips in our football accumulators page.
Monday – Southampton vs Liverpool
8pm, Sky Sports Main Event
Why we’re watching:
Southampton haven’t been at their best lately, but in a condensed Premier League table a clash between ninth and first is still a big one. The Reds haven’t had things easy domestically of late but they’ll be out to change that here.
What we’re backing:
Southampton look to be the perfect foil for Liverpool, with the Reds winning the last six meetings between the two. Meanwhile, the Saints have lost three of four clashes at home to sides above them.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win @ 3/5
Tuesday – Tottenham vs Brentford
7:45pm, Sky Sports Main Event
Why we’re watching:
Brentford are among the most entertaining sides in the Championship, with five of their last six games seeing both teams score. Having taken the scalp of four Premier League sides so far, the Bees are a danger to Spurs
What we’re backing:
With Brentford in high-scoring form we see them troubling a Spurs defence who have kept one clean sheet in six. The Bees hit eight goals in four clashes with top-flight sides in this competition so we’re expecting goals.
Betting tip: Both Teams to Score @ 4/5
Wednesday – AC Milan vs Juventus
7:45pm, Premier Sports 1
Why we’re watching:
That’s right, we’re swerving the Manchester derby to point you in the direction of a massive game in Italy. AC Milan have made a red-hot start in Italy and sit top, with Juventus struggling to keep up the pace. A loss here and Juve’s long title reign could be coming to a close.
What we’re backing:
AC Milan are unbeaten so far and they face a Juve side who haven’t beaten a top-half side so far. The Rossoneri should be able to hold them at bay.
Betting tip: AC Milan Double Chance @ 8/13
Friday – Borussia Monchengladbach vs Bayern Munich
7:30pm, BT Sport 2
Why we’re watching:
Thursday may be light on action but the Bundesliga is serving up a huge weekend of action. It kicks off with Bayern trying to close the gap on the leaders, having won nine of their first 13 games of the season.
What we’re backing:
Gladbach have had a patchy but high-scoring season. They’ve scored in all 13 Bundesliga games so far and they meet a Bayern side who have seen BTTS in 100% of their away trips.
Betting tip: Bayern & BTTS @ 6/4
Saturday – RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund
5:30pm, BT Sport 1
Why we’re watching:
While Bayern chase top spot, Leipzig are currently there. That amps up this clash with a Dortmund side who have struggled in big games this term. With the visitors’ best win on the road coming at 12th placed Hertha Berlin, this is a big challenge.
What we’re backing:
Dortmund’s problems have come at the back, conceding at least twice in big clashes with Union Berlin and Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Leipzig have won all but one of their home games, scoring at least twice in each of those victories.
Betting tip: Over 1.5 Leipzig goals @ evens
Sunday – Newport vs Brighton
7:45pm, BT Sport 1
Why we’re watching:
This may be the most left-field choice on the list, but Newport carry a reputation as giant-killers and the League Two side have a great draw in prospect. They face a Brighton side who look vulnerable, so we could see a shock.
What we’re backing:
In 2019 Newport put out Leicester and Middlesbrough before losing to Man City in this competition. They put out Leeds in the 2018 Third Round and the Welsh side beat Swansea and Watford in this season’s EFL Cup before losing on penalties to Newcastle.
Brighton come here with one win in 16 overall and they lost 1-0 in last season’s Third Round at home to Sheffield Wednesday. Given that form, it’s hard to see a big Seagulls win.
Betting tip: Newport +2 handicap @ 8/13
