Middlesbrough vs Burnley
Correct Score Prediction: 3-0 Middlesbrough
Championship leaders Middlesbrough are coming into this game in fantastic form. They have won their last four matches and haven’t conceded a goal in any of their last eight league matches. Their focus will be undoubtedly on securing promotion, but they have enough strength in depth to enjoy an FA Cup run as well. Burnley aren’t doing as well as they would have hoped and find themselves in a dog fight for the playoffs, so an FA Cup run could prove an unwelcome distraction from this battle. Middlesbrough’s talented backup strikers will be eager to impress in this one, so I fancy an emphatic 3-0 scoreline.
Norwich vs Manchester City
Correct Score Prediction: 3-1 Manchester City
Norwich don’t have the best cup pedigree in recent years and have been eliminated in their first participating round in each of the last two seasons. It’s not looking good for them here either, as they come up against a side who have scored more than anyone else in the Premier League. There’s also the possibility that a weakened Norwich side will be fielded as they battle to sustain their place in the Premier League for next season. A 3-1 win for the visitors is a good backing if you ask me.
Nottingham Forest vs QPR
Correct Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
Both Nottingham Forest and QPR have been struggling to win recently, with Nottingham Forest winning one of their last six matches and QPR not winning any of their last six. Despite this, they are both proving difficult to beat. Forest haven’t lost any of these six games and QPR have only lost twice. This makes them two of the draw specialists of the Championship, and six of these 12 total matches have ended 1-1. This makes 1-1 the obvious scoreline to back for this game, so that’s what I’m going for.
Southampton vs Crystal Palace
Correct Score Prediction: 2-1 Crystal Palace
Southampton come into this game low on confidence and in poor form, and they will see it as a bad omen that they were eliminated from the FA Cup by Crystal Palace last season. It won’t help that the visitors are enjoying an excellent season so far either. Alan Pardew has mentioned his fondness of a good cup run previously, and with his side in such good form on the road I’m expecting him to drum the importance of progressing into his players ahead of this clash.
Watford vs Newcastle
Correct Score Prediction: 2-0 Watford
Watford may have struggled to find a win in recent weeks, but they have had to face Chelsea, Spurs, and Manchester City. Before this they were in excellent form, and they come up against a Newcastle side struggling to find the net and having not won any of their last four matches. I think the partnership of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo will be too much for the Newcastle defence, and considering Newcastle haven’t scored any in their last three matches I think a 2-0 Watford win is a good prediction.
Manchester United vs Sheffield United
Correct Score Prediction: 1-0 Manchester United
Manchester United are likely to be fielding a less than full strength squad for this one given their crucial Premier League match in midweek, and even their first team isn’t exactly setting the world alight this season. They have struggled to score all the way through this season, and an in form Sheffield United have the capabilities to continue limiting their goalscoring capability. I’m expecting Manchester United to get a narrow win here, so a 1-0 scoreline looks good to me.
