Sunday brings us a feast of high-level German Bundesliga action as two of the league’s top four contenders take to the pitch against two teams battling against the rising tide of Bundesliga relegation.

Borussia Monchengladbach are first up as they face a declining Union Berlin side at 2:30pm, with the visiting Union Berlin slowly sliding towards the relegation zone as they struggle to cope with the apparent lack of Bundesliga home advantage.

That clash at Borussia-Park is swiftly followed by a trip to the Benteler Arena where bottom-of-the-table Paderborn look for an unlikely upset against Borussia Dortmund. The visitors saw their title challenge all but end in midweek as they were defeated at home to Bayern Munich, and they’re expected to bounce back with a vengeance against the struggling Paderborn.

We take a look at all the Bundesliga odds, team news and predicted lineups for Sunday’s double header, and you can check out the rest of our Bundesliga predictions here.

14:30 – Borussia Monchengladbach vs Union Berlin

Borussia Monchengladbach’s top four aspirations took another hit in midweek as they were held to a goalless draw at the relegation threatened Werder Bremen, but they can reclaim a Champions League qualification spot with a win over Union Berlin on Sunday.

The visitors have been the surprise package of the Bundesliga this season, but their performances have slipped since returning from the enforced break in play. They have picked up just one point from their last nine matches and now find themselves well in the mix in terms of the relegation battle.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Union Berlin odds

Borussia Monchengladbach win: 1/2

Draw: 7/2

Union Berlin win: 5/1

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Union Berlin team news and predicted lineups

Midfield duo Denis Zakaria and Tobias Strobl are ruled out for Borussia Monchengladbach, leaving a lot of weight resting on Christoph Kramer’s shoulders in the centre of the park. Further back, Oscar Wendt could miss out on a starting berth, with Ramy Bensebaini expected to be Marco Rose’s first choice at left back.

Borussia Monchengladbach predicted lineup: Sommer – Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Bensebaini – Kramer, Neuhaus – Hofmann, Stindl, Thuram – Plea

Borussia Monchengladbach injuries: Embolo, Jantschke (suspended), Johnson, Strobl, Zakaria

Important midfielder Robert Andrich will sit this one out after getting sent off against Mainz, with Grischa Promel expected to deputise next to Christian Gentner. Christopher Lenz is also closing in on full fitness, but Julian Ryerson could fill in at left back if Lenz isn’t ready in time.

Union Berlin predicted lineup: Gikiewicz – Friedrich, Schlotterbeck, Subotic – Trimmel, Gentner, Promel, Lenz – Ingvartsen, Bulter – Andersson

Union Berlin injuries: Andrich (suspended), Becker, Gogia

17:00 – Paderborn vs Borussia Dortmund

It’s looking like it’s too little, too late for Paderborn. The relegation threatened outfit have returned from the coronavirus-enforced hiatus with a new lease of life, drawing each of their three fixtures to end a four game losing streak. However, with nine points separating them from safety they’re going to need more than a few draws to dig themselves out of this ever-deepening hole.

A draw would be a blessing on Sunday, though. They face a wounded Borussia Dortmund side who saw their Bundesliga title hopes slip away in midweek. They lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich at the Signal Iduna Park but, with six wins from their last seven league games, not many are expecting them to slip up again as the race for a top four spot intensifies.

Paderborn vs Borussia Dortmund odds

Paderborn win: 15/2

Draw: 9/2

Borussia Dortmund win: 1/3

Paderborn vs Borussia Dortmund team news and predicted lineups

Midfielder Klaus Gjasula will be forced to sit this one out after picking up his 15th yellow card of the season for Paderborn, leaving him just one short of the Bundesliga record for bookings in a season. 20-year-old defender Luca Kilian, who has played 13 times for Paderborn this term, is also a doubt as he continues his recovery from injury.

Paderborn predicted lineup: Zingerle – Drager, Hunemeier, Schonlau, Collins – Holtmann, Ritter, Vasiliadis, Antwi – Adjei, Srbeny, Mamba

Paderborn injuries: Kilian (doubtful), Gjasula (suspended)

The big news for Borussia Dortmund is that Norwegian sensation Erling-Braut Haaland will miss out after limping off against Die Roten in midweek. Thorgan Hazard is expected to lead the line in his absence, while Jadon Sancho should return to the starting lineup after starting from the bench in the last three games. Emre Can could also return to action alongside Thomas Delaney, with Mo Dahoud ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Borussia Dortmund predicted lineup: Burki – Piszczek, Hummels, Akanji – Hakimi, Can, Delaney, Guerreiro – Brandt, Hazard, Sancho

Borussia Dortmund injuries: Dahoud, Haaland, Reus, Schulz, Zagadou
