Championship 2023/24 relegation predictions with 10/1, 3/1 and 7/4 tips

We covered the outright and promotion markets in the Championship earlier this week as part of FST’s outright predictions season, and now we take a look at the candidates who could fall through the relegation trapdoor at the end of the campaign.

Our tipster has picked out his three contenders for the drop and two are among the market leaders, but he also thinks one side who came close to the Premier League promise land last time out could struggle in the season ahead.

We’ve used bet365 and Skybet for our prices and new customers can take advantage of their respective sign-up offers by opening an account using the buttons below.

Championship relegation predictions & tips

Rotherham to be relegated at 7/4

Yo-yo club Rotherham managed to escape what had been priced up as inevitable by beating the noose in May, but it’s hard to have much confidence in the Millers this coming season.
Once more they are priced up to be relegated from the Championship for what would be a fourth time in eight seasons.

And given the calibre of the teams who came down and certainly two of the three teams who came up, it doesn’t get any easier for Rotherham.

Obviously the threat of points deductions, seemingly more of a danger in these times of financial impropriety, could be a factor, as was the case last season with Wigan and Reading taking hits.

Neither event ultimately had a bearing on Rotherham, who survived of their own accord, grateful for a fast start which gave them points in the bank in time for a tricky spring.

That fast start was under Paul Warne, with whom they averaged 1.4 points per game until he joined Derby. Under replacement Matt Taylor they averaged exactly one point per game.

On top of that fall-off, ace midfielder Dan Barlaser left in January, Conor Washington has reunited with Warne and talented Chiedozie Ogbene has moved on with Luton.

Cardiff to be relegated at 3/1

Coventry to be relegated at 10/1

Rotherham look good things to go with the layers suggesting League One champs Plymouth will also go straight back down.

Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield are next best in the betting. Indeed, the top five in the market have all been managed by Warnock at some time.

Argyle could actually be quite progressive, especially if Steven Schumacher can land a few of his targets.

Last year no team liked going to Home Park, where they piled up an astonishing 61 out of a possible 69 points, and top frontman Morgan Whittaker has been signed to complete unfinished business from last term.

There is better value to be had looking at a couple of sides like Coventry and Cardiff.

The Bluebirds, who are going into the unknown with ex-Fenerbahce boss Erol Bulut, were poor last season and are handicapped by an embargo which lasts until the winter.

Coventry will be less of a team minus the excellent Viktor Gyokeres and know Gus Hamer is on the radar of several clubs.

The Sky Blues have just come off a playoff campaign but that doesn’t make them immune from a spectacular fall from grace.
