Championship 2024/25 play-off & relegation predictions

Our EFL experts have tipped up a 7/2 Championship winner prediction, and now our attention turns towards other markets in the second tier as we look at the play-off positions and the less desirable bottom three.

All our tips are priced up with bet365, and you can find all our other outright predictions and the schedule for upcoming articles here.

Championship relegation prediction – Blackburn to be relegated at 10/3

Blackburn avoided being dragged into a final-day relegation scrap courtesy of two of the most outrageous away wins of the whole 2023/24 Championship season, but they may not get away with it this time.

Rovers were in a mess going into their final four games of term which included trips to Leeds and Leicester, a pair of home bankers if ever there were.

Except John Eustace’s men hadn’t read the script, winning 1-0 at Elland Road and 2-0 at the King Power to be spared the axe.

However, those late heroics could barely mask a disappointing season at Ewood Park, where supporter dissatisfaction at board-room issues simmered constantly and could yet prove a factor.

Of even more concern would be the impending transfer away from Blackburn of Sammie Szmodics, the winner of the Championship Golden Boot with 27 of his side’s 60 goals.

They have coped with the departures of ace goalscorers before in Adam Armstrong and Ben Brereton Diaz, but a thin squad might not get so lucky this time.

Plymouth are the other team inked in on the relegation shortlist though Blackburn’s price swings it.

Championship play-off prediction – Coventry to finish in the top six at 7/4

Up at the other end of the table, there seems no reason to believe Coventry won’t be there or thereabouts when the play-off places are decided.

Last season’s ninth place looks a disappointment having made the play-off final at Wembley against Luton 12 months earlier, but 2023/24 was a tough one for Mark Robins with the departures of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustav Hamer.

They faded last season with just one point from their final six matches but Robins moulded a team minus any real stars, and a full summer working with them should only see progress.

Ellis Simms and Haji Wright combined for 29 goals last term, and if Victor Torp can conjure up more moments as playmaker Coventry are surely going to go close.

Back them to get back in the top six in a division where teams like cash-strapped and confidence-stripped Sheffield United and a less swashbuckling Burnley might not necessarily be contenders.

Championship specials – Luton to be top South East club at 10/11

Luton were relegated from the Premier League last season, but they have done the right thing in keeping Rob Edwards as coach.

The Hatters will have been proud of many of the performances they put in during their unlikely season in the top flight with a group of players of essentially Championship calibre.

This is their level and it’s hard not to see Luton giving a good account of themselves.

The Bedfordshire outfit certainly look attractive in top-six betting, though a more attractive bet is them to land a regional best as Top South-East Club up against Millwall, QPR and Watford.

In all honesty, it’s hard to see any of that trio getting close to the top ten and, therefore, getting close to Luton.
