Corales Puntacana Golf & Resort Championship tips
Born in the south east of Ireland, Simon put his life-long love of football to good use when he started a successful independent blog in 2010. That opened up an alternative route to a career in journalism, and having had work published across a number of sites and publications, Simon joined the staff at Spotlight Sports Group in 2018.
While the world’s top players are competing to win the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship, those who didn’t qualify will be teeing it up in the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic, where four of the tournament’s last five winners return to the scenic setting on the coastal plains of the Caribbean to relive former glories.
Last year’s champion Hudson Swafford will be part of the field this week, though we have our eyes on some of the players in our betting tips for the competition.

Corales Puntacana Golf & Resort Championship winner prediction: Charles Howell III at 22/1
Branden Grace dropped down in class to win the Puerto Rico Open last month and Charles Howell III looks overpriced in his bid to do something similar when he tees it up at the PGA Tour’s Corales Puntacana Championship in the Dominican Republic.
Howell should have won more in his long career but neither his ability nor his considerable bank balance can be ignored and his most recent performance, driving the ball beautifully on the way to ninth at the Players Championship, was a serious effort in a top-class field.
He missed the cut in his only previous Corales start in 2020 but he’s frequently played well on the paspalum grass greens of Mayakoba’s El Camaleon – the same putting surfaces he will encounter here – and the last of his three wins came by the coast in the 2018 RSM Classic.
Corales Puntacana Golf & Resort Championship outsider prediction: Tyler McCumber at 35/1
Tyler McCumber has been popping up on leaderboards in stronger events recently, playing well through 36 holes at the Genesis Invitational before struggling over the weekend and producing another respectable performance in a high-class field when 22nd at the Players.
The 29-year-old returns to the scene of his best PGA Tour performance, the Corales Course where he finished second to Hudson Swafford in September, and he should be brimming with confidence given a series of solid recent performances.
McCumber, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, was also 19th in this event in 2018 and is clearly comfortable in this part of the world.
