Euro 2024 Group A Best Bet – Hungary to qualify at 4/6
Hungary come into the tournament looking like they could cause some problems and it seems fair to peg them as the second-best side in the group. With the possibility of three of the four Group A sides making the last 16, Hungary are well-priced at 4/6 to qualify for the next round.
The Hungarians performed well as the fourth side behind France, Portugal and Germany at Euro 2020, losing only once and twice taking the lead in a 2-2 draw with Germany in Munich. Four years on, this talented group has gained experience and they may even give the hosts another scare.
Euro 2024 Group B Best Bet – Croatia to win Group B at 9/2
Spain beat Croatia to the Nations League trophy last summer but they had to do it on penalties, with Croatia arguably the stronger side before the shootout. The Spanish finished behind Sweden at this stage at Euro 2020 and they were fortunate to make the last 16 in Qatar, finishing second behind Japan on just four points. A lack of goals in big games harms them at the group stage, so this could be a tricky pool for the three-time winners.
There are question marks over an Italy side in the early stages of reshaping their team and the Spanish had a shaky qualifying campaign which doesn’t suggest they’re worth being odds-on favourites in the toughest group of the tournament. Croatia made the semis at the World Cup 18 months ago and they’re a great price at 9/2 to top Group B.
Euro 2024 Group C Best Bet – Slovenia to qualify from Group C at 5/4
With England heavy favourites to make it out of Group C, there’s little value in siding with the Three Lions. Slovenia are one of the bigger prices to qualify for the last 16 having been largely written off, but they competed well with Denmark in qualifying.
When you consider that Serbia have been eliminated at the group stage of every tournament they’ve attended as an independent nation, there’s certainly an opening for Slovenia. In Sesko they have a proven scorer and Oblak can help them stand up to their opposition. With narrow margins deciding which 16 of the 24 sides progress, it could also be key that Slovenia meet England in their third game, when the Three Lions will likely be safely through.
Euro 2024 Group D Best Bet – Austria to qualify from Group D at 10/11
Austria are missing their star man and skipper as David Alaba won’t be involved due to injury, but they still have plenty of quality within their squad – particularly in midfield where Marcel Sabitzer is joined by Christoph Baumgartner and Konrad Laimer.
Manager Ralf Rangnick has managed to turn this Austria side into an efficient unit and they impressed in qualifying. Third place may well be enough for Austria to progress to the next round and they may even be able to finish ahead of an inconsistent Netherlands outfit and snatch second spot.
Euro 2024 Group E Best Bet – Belgium & Ukraine dual forecast at 5/4
The value option in Group E is taking Belgium and Ukraine to occupy the top two spots in any order.
Belgium are unbeaten under Tedesco and they should be expected to keep that record intact against lesser opposition through the group stages, while Ukraine have impressed in the build-up to the tournament and they recently claimed a draw with Germany in Nuremberg so they look to be coming into the tournament in form and it is hard to see either Slovakia or Romania finishing above one of these teams in the opening round.
Euro 2024 Group F Best Bet – Portugal to win Group F at 4/9
Turkey, the Czech Republic and Georgia come into the tournament perhaps as unknown quantities, in varying degrees, but it is hard to see big guns Portugal failing to top this particular pile.
The 2016 winners could go far in this year’s edition of the competition and they’re coming into Euro 2024 after a perfect qualifying campaign. The Portuguese may well be able to win all three of their opening fixtures and they should comfortably be able to qualify for the next round as the Group F winners.
