Experts' Best Bets: 51/1 accumulator for Sunday

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.

With four of Europe’s big five leagues up and running we have plenty of football to cover on Sunday. From the Premier League’s Super Sunday action through to a huge Ligue 1 offering, there’s plenty of matches to research for your accas.

Hopefully we can make that slightly easier for you, as we’ve tasked three Racing Post tipsters to pick out their best bet for Sunday. Together we’ve got six standout bets which combined make up our huge 51/1 Experts’ Acca!

Newcastle vs West Ham – Both teams to score

Newcastle finally found their rhythm towards the end of last season and with Callum Wilson back to full fitness they have formed a surprisingly strong attacking lineup. They scored ten goals in their final four league games last season and come up against a West Ham side that kept just one clean sheet in their final 11 top-flight matches.

The Hammers saw both teams score in each of their last five league games, though, and with Newcastle losing three of their last four opening day fixtures I can’t imagine the Magpies keeping David Moyes’ side out.

Brann vs Sandefjord – Both teams to score at 7/10

Brann have been good value for goals of late, especially given that they’ve seen both teams score in their last four league games. The hosts have big issues at the back – they’ve kept two clean sheets in their last 29 league games.

As for Sandefjord, they’ve scored in 11 of their last 13 league games and they’ve conceded in five of their last six trips. With Brann conceding in 86% of their home games and the visitors shipping a goal in 83% of their trips, both teams to score looks good here.

Clermont vs Troyes – Clermont to win at evens

Troyes made waves with a narrow loss to PSG in the opening round of fixtures but fellow promoted side Clermont stand out to me here. They won 2-0 at Bordeaux last weekend and finished last season with a nine-game unbeaten streak at home with seven wins and two draws. That run included a win over Troyes, and they won a friendly meeting between the two teams over the summer.

Marseille vs Bordeaux – Marseille -1 on handicap at 13/10

Marseille were involved in a dramatic Ligue 1 opener against Montpellier last week, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 thanks to a Dimitri Payet brace and a goal from Cengiz Under.

They should have a more straightforward victory at home to Bordeaux, who finished 15 points behind them last season and started their 2021-22 campaign with a 2-0 home defeat against promoted Clermont. Take Marseille to cover a one-goal handicap.

Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid – Atletico Madrid to win at evens

With El Clasico clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid losing crical players in this summer’s transfer window, Atletico will fancy their chances of defending their La Liga title and they can start by beating Celta Vigo.

Diego Simeone’s men won 11 of their 19 away games last term, prevailed in the corresponding fixture back in October and should be more prepared having played five pre-season games compared to Vigo’s two.

Mainz v RB Leipzig – RB Leipzig -1 handicap at 10/11

RB Leipzig begin life under new head coach Jesse Marsch with a fixture they tend to dominant. Leipzig have won six of the last ten meeting with Mainz, scoring more goals (33) against the 05ers than another side in their brief Bundesliga history.

Only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund scored more away goals last season (31) and Leipzig have strengthened their attacking options with the addition of Andre Silva, who netted 28 times for Frankfurt in the previous campaign.

Mainz have seen their preparations for the 2021-22 campaign wrecked by a Covid outbreak and it’s unclear who will be available to head coach Bo Svensson.
