John Deere Classic winner prediction: Brian Harman at 14/1
Daniel Berger tops the betting for the John Deere Classic and the Floridian seems likely to be a popular selection with punters after his share of seventh place in the US Open last time out.
Motivation could be an issue for the favourite, though, in such a humdrum event, and it is also worth noting that he was suffering with a rib injury in the spring. Rib problems can take ages to heal, so it is difficult to have 100 percent confidence in Berger’s well-being.
At slightly bigger odds, Brian Harman is much preferred. The little left-hander has been performing consistently well this year – his name featuring regularly on PGA Tour leaderboards – and that form may finally translate to silverware at TPC Deere Run.
This course was the scene of Harman’s maiden PGA Tour title in 2014 and it sets up ideally for him, with strong wedge-play and ace putting the keys to success. The Georgia man has always been one of the most confident rock-rollers in the business, meaning he can reach the super-low winning total which is annually required in the John Deere.
Harman has followed third place in the Players Championship at Sawgrass with a run to the quarter-finals of the WGC-Match Play, 12th spot in the Masters, eighth at Colonial and fifth last time out in the Travelers Championship.
John Deere Classic outsider prediction: Aaron Wise at 35/1
An alternative to Harman at bigger odds is Aaron Wise, who was the 2018 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.
This season, Wise has been getting his act together again, finishing runner-up in the Mayakoba Classic, ninth in the Wells Fargo and ninth again in the Memorial. He carded a 63 in the 2016 John Deere Classic and seems well capable of getting into contention again this week. Wise is still only 25 and improving.
