The world’s most famous horse race takes place on Saturday with Aintree playing host to the Grand National.

I Am Maximus, who won the race in stunning style last year is back to defend his crown, but there could be a better value bet further down the field.

Saturday’s Aintree Super Mega Accumulator

Grand National 2025 winner – Beauport at 25/1

Beauport will have no problem staying the four-mile-two-and-a-half-furling trip, having won a 4m2f Midlands National on heavy ground in March last year, and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge can outrun his odds.

The nine-year-old has also won a Berkshire National over 3m5f on good ground, so there are no concerns over the faster conditions on Saturday and Twiston-Davies’ runner also ran a fantastic race in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December.

Charlie Uberalles at 16/1 – 2.30 Aintree

Myretown bolted up in the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival, but Lucinda Russell’s charge has been whacked up 15 pounds, there is faster ground to contend with and the eight-year-old may not get such an easy time of it at the front in the William Hill Handicap Chase.

At a big price, a chance can be taken on Charlie Uberalles bouncing back to form. The nine-year-old disappointed at Kempton last time out, but the ground was likely a little too testing for Dianne Sayer’s charge and the faster conditions at Aintree should suit.

Prior to the run at Kempton, Sayer’s runner won a good handicap at Donacaster, beating Docpickedme, who went onto win the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase at Donny and Charlie Uberalles looks overpriced.

Gwennie May Boy at 15/2 – 3.05 Aintree

Gwennie May Boy bolted up in the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle last time out and a flat track on decent ground looks ideal for the seven-year-old

Dan Skelton’s runner was also seriously impressive when cruising home in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle at this meeting last year and Gwennie May Boy can get the better of some exposed rivals.

L’Eau du Sud at 13/8 – 5.00 Aintree

After contesting the Arkle Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, L’Eau du Sud, Only By Night and Touch Me Not are set to re-opose in Maghull Novices’ Chase.

Clearly, it’s a concern backing a horse that has had a hard race at Cheltenham, but there is little of the way in opposition to the Cleeve Hill runners at Aintree on Saturday.

L’Eau du Sud looked all over the winner of the Arkle, but Dan Skelton’s runner faded close home. However, there are hopes for better on Saturday with cheekpieces on for the first time, and the flat track at Aintree, likely to suit better than the undulations of Cheltenham.
