Huge 1517/1 winners treble tip for this week's golf events
It is another busy week in golf with the PGA Tour heading to Japan for the Zozo Championship, the DP World Tour visiting one of Europe’s most iconic courses, Valderrama, for the Andalucia Masters and the penultimate tournament of the LIV Golf schedule in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Racing Post tipster Ian Wilkerson has selections for each of the three tournaments, which can be backed as a 1,517/1 each-way treble or as individual bets.
1,517/1 each-way treble
If you fancy an each-way treble the best place to start is at the Zozo Championship, where South Korea’s Sungjae Im is the selection at 11/1 to get the better of Olympic champion Xander Schauffele and home favourite Hideki Matsuyama.
Matthew Fitzpatrick defends his title at the Andalucia Masters, but we are taking Ryan Fox to come out on top at Valderrama, two weeks after the New Zealander won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He is 22/1 for glory.
Then, with the three-round LIV Golf tournament starting on Friday morning, 9/2 favourite Dustin Johnson can get the job done at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, where he has twice won the Saudi International.
Zozo Championship prediction – Sungjae Im at 11/1
Sungjae Im has been the nearlyman of the PGA Tour for the last few months but this looks like a great chance for him to get an overdue win.
The South Korean has finished in the top seven in four of his last six tournaments, a run that has included three runner-up spots, including one behind Rory McIlroy at the prestigious Tour Championship.
He was third on his only previous visit to Accordia Golf Narashino CC when Tiger Woods won this tournament in 2019 and he has a strong tee-to-green which should suit this assignment. Japanese courses are notorious for being tight and this week’s test is no exception.
Andalucia Masters prediction – Ryan Fox at 22/1
Matthew Fitzpatrick won the Andalucia Masters by three shots last year, but Ryan Fox is in excellent form and could enjoy a great week at Valderrama.
It is just two weeks since the New Zealander won the Alfred Dunhill Link Championship in Scotland, which was his second success on the DP World Tour this year.
He has also finished second three times and should be able to flourish again at Spain’s most famous course, having placed fourth there on his debut in last year’s tournament.
LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah prediction – Dustin Johnson at 9/2
Dustin Johnson has already claimed the $18m first prize as the individual winner of this year’s LIV Tour and last week’s 15th spot in Bangkok was the first time in six tournaments he has not finished in the top eight.
He won the meet-up in Boston, but probably of greater importance this week is his excellent record at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, where the Saudi International tournament has been played for the last four years.
Johnson has won it twice and finished runner-up to Graeme McDowell in 2020, so there is little doubt he is the man to beat this week.
