Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament Tips

Bernardo Silva was outshined at the Etihad this season but he should play a key role in what is set to be a deep run for Portugal at the Euros.
Silva, who is 66/1 to be the UEFA Player of the Tournament, chipped in with three goals and four assists in qualifying and he acts as a link between defence and attack for Roberto Martinez’s side. He will play a much bigger role for Portugal at the tournament than during their qualifying campaign, which was largely a walkover.
The award has gone to a player from the winning nation at six of the last seven tournaments and Silva is the kind of technically gifted midfielder that these awards tend to favour. Compatriot Joao Neves at 100/1 also looks like an outstanding option for the young player prize.

There’s a strong case to be made for England’s Jude Bellingham, who is 9/1 to win the award raised his profile even further with a starring role in Real Madrid’s Champions League success.
However, at more than three times Bellingham’s price, Germany’s latest wunderkind Florian Wirtz offers much better value.
The 21-year-old has come back from a serious knee injury as if it never happened and was pivotal to Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga success.
Wirtz scored Germany’s fastest ever goal after just seven seconds against France in March but this award allows him to be appreciated for more than just his goals, and his performances should not go unnoticed in front of an appreciative home crowd.

Although it is not really my style, I am quite tempted by Kylian Mbappe as the 7/1 market leader particularly as France should arguably be favourites for the tournament.
Although Didier Deschamps has a deep squad to select from, that will be for anyone other than Mbappe – the top goalscorer at the 2022 World Cup. He has had a tremendous season on a personal level, has a dream move to Real Madrid to look forward to and performs on the big stage. Les Bleus already look the best team in it to me, and will play to his strengths.

As I fancy Spain to go far, I’d look at Alvaro Morata as a 50/1 outside pick given his rebirth at Atletico Madrid but he might be more suitable in the top goalscorer market.
Therefore I will go with German starlet Florian Wirtz. Although he only just turned 21, the midfielder was integral to a Bayer Leverkusen team who lost only one of their 53 matches in all competitions this season.
He scored 11 goals and laid on 11 assists for Die Werkself en route to their Bundesliga title triumph and he heads into Euro 2024 in high spirits.
Likely to play out wide, he could have a big tournament for the host nation and is a 25/1 chance to win the award.

France forward Antoine Griezmann looks fantastic value at 22/1, considering he plays for a team that has every chance of going all the way this summer.
The Atletico Madrid ace scored 24 goals and grabbed another eight assists in 48 appearances in all competitions this season, and he is still a mainstay in France’s XI. Only Theo Hernandez played more minutes than Griezmann in qualifying under Didier Deschamps, and at 33, he will want to prove himself on the big stage once again.
Griezmann needs no introduction, and considering his importance to the team, he offers much more value than team-mate Kylian Mbappe.
Alex Hilton
Germany could be riding plenty of waves of emotion this summer, so I’d fancy a tickle on Toni Kroos at 16/1 to go out on a high this summer.
The veteran midfielder is flavour of the month after announcing his decision to retire from football following Euro 2024, and he began his farewell lap in style by adding the Champions League trophy to the La Liga medal he picked up with Real Madrid last month.
And any success for Germany between now and July could see him pushed to the forefront of the Player of the Tournament reckoning, as long as Julian Nagelsmann gives him plenty of chances to shine.
Kroos has returned to the international fold for one last hurrah and he could have a big part to play for Die Mannschaft.

A deft pass from Bruno Fernandes set up Kobbie Mainoo’s decisive goal in the FA Cup final and the Manchester United star created more big chances than any other player in the Premier League – just as he had in 2022-23.
Fernandes is 33/1 to be named the UEFA Plater of the Tournament and he contributed six goals and eight assists in Portugal’s ten Euro 2024 qualifying matches, so he should be at the heart of their bid for glory in Germany.
Another adopted Mancunian midfielder, Manchester City star Rodri, is Spain’s key man and he looks a decent price at 33/1 to emulate compatriots Xavi and Andres Iniesta by being named player of the tournament.
