Newcastle to beat Aston Villa. The Magpies won 11 of their 19 Premier League home games last season, including a comprehensive 4-0 victory over the Villans in the final match before Unai Emery took charge.
While Emery has massively improved Villa, Newcastle continue to make strides under Eddie Howe and they’re likely to be even stronger with the addition of a few big-money summer signings.
Newcastle’s approach under their current owners has been one of steady improvement and a squad overhaul looks unlikely, meaning that they should be able to hit the ground running on the opening day.
Best bet – Newcastle to win

Liverpool’s away record last season was the key reason they failed to finish in the top four but they can make early amends this time around, against a team they have struggled against of late. The Reds finished the season with an 11-game unbeaten run, winning eight, and Alexis Mac Allister looks an excellent signing to rejuvenate their midfield.
Chelsea have spent big, and may do so again, but with a new manager getting to grips with an overstocked squad that may still lack a proper striker, they could be vulnerable on opening weekend, particularly to a free-scoring side that is expected to be challenging for the title. Despite their poor away record, Liverpool won as many on the road as the Blues did at home last term.
Best bet – Liverpool to win

Crystal Palace were in a relegation battle before Roy Hodgson returned to the club and steered the Eagles to safety from March onwards and they could be vulnerable in their 2023/24 opener against Sheffield United.
It remains to be seen who will take charge of Palace next season and the club were reliant on results at Selhurst Park last campaign, so starting on the road will not be ideal.
Sheffield United gained promotion from the Championship last term, having won 16 of their 23 matches at Bramall Lane, where they are a value bet to record an opening-day win.
Best bet – Sheffield United to win

Erik Ten Hag managed to get the best out of Manchester United in his first season at Old Trafford, and that should continue when they entertain Wolves during the first round of fixtures.
The Red Devils ended last season with four successive Premier League wins, and they are bound to bolster their ranks as they try to compete in the Champions League.
Wolves may start next season without playmaker Ruben Neves, and with plenty of changes planned at Molineux, there is no guarantee the players will click under Julen Lopetegui during the first few weeks of the campaign.
United are unbeaten at home since September, a run of 30 matches, and they should open their account for the new season at Wolves’ expense.
Best bet – Manchester United to win

No team won more home matches in the Championship last season than Sheffield United (16) and the Blades will hope to take that positive momentum into their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace at Bramall Lane.
Managerless Palace only won four times away from home last season and appear to be in for a summer of uncertainty as they search for Roy Hodgson’s replacement as head coach.
United can capitalise on that by starting the season with what could prove to be an important victory against a potential relegation rival come the business end of the campaign.
Best bet – Sheffield United to win

While West Ham had a tough Premier League season in 2022-23, they won the Europa Conference League in fine style and appeal at around 6-4 for an opening victory at Bournemouth.
Declan Rice is expected to depart but the Hammers’ squad should still be full of quality and Bournemouth could be set for a difficult second season in the top flight.
The Cherries did brilliantly to stay up but the underlying stats suggest they were flattered by a points tally of 39 and West Ham can kick off 2023-24 with an away win.
Best bet – West Ham to win

All the early noise around Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at Tottenham is that he’s likely to make a slow start. That’s nothing new for Spurs, who historically tend to leave their transfer business late as Daniel Levy attempts to hammer out deals.
They open their campaign away at Brentford, a side who took full advantage of Manchester United’s early-season issues last term. While another 4-0 win is unlikely, the Bees are great value at above 2/1 considering how good their home record was last season.
Best bet – Brentford to win
