Irish Open & Procore Championship golf tips with 311/1 double

It’s the start of a big fortnight on the DP World Tour as Royal County Down plays host to the Irish Open before the BMW PGA Championship takes place next week at Wentworth’s West Course.

After a one-week break, the PGA Tour starts again with the first event of the Fall Series, the Procore Championship at Silverado Country Club in Napa, California.

Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has taken a look at both events to put together an each-way double which pays out at 311/1.

Irish Open winner prediction – Bernd Wiesberger at 25/1

Rory McIlroy dominates the betting for the Irish Open, taking place for the first time since 2015 at spectacular Royal County Down, but it could be worth opposing him this week.

McIlroy has not been at his best since letting the US Open slip from his grasp and he missed the cut at County Down nine years ago as Soren Kjeldsen bested the elements to take the title.

Bernd Wiesberger was one of just five players to finish under par in the 2015 Irish Open, losing out in a playoff, and his record at links courses suggest he could again be a factor.

The 38-year-old finished second in the 2019 Irish Open behind Jon Rahm at Lahinch then he won the Scottish Open the following week at the Renaissance Club. He returns to Ireland on a run of nine top-25 finishes from his last 11 starts.

Procore Championship winner prediction – Sahith Theegala at 11/1

Previously known as the Frys.com Open, the Safeway Open and the Fortinet Championship, the Procore Championship and its latest rebrand mark the start of the Fall Series, the run of eight PGA Tour events which give the lesser lights a chance to shine.

Under its various guises, the Procore has taken place at Silverado Country Club in California since 2014, when Sang-moon Bae held off Steven Bowditch to win by two shots.

Last season, Sahith Theegala broke through in his home state and the improving 26-year-old looks poised to double up as defending champion.

Silverado is a tight, tree-lined venue and while Theegala has a reputation for being loose off the tee, he has sharpened up with driver in hand, rising from 172nd to 91st in the PGA Tour’s driving accuracy statistics.

He was last seen finishing third at the Tour Championship, where he shot the second-lowest 72-hole total, and he would’ve finished second outright had he not called a two-shot penalty on himself in the third round.

Theegala’s honesty cost him $2.5 million but he could gain swift compensation at Silverado, where he also finished 14th in 2020 in his fifth event as a professional. He was then sixth at the venue in 2022.
