League One relegation betting odds

  • Crawley Town – 4/6
  • Shrewsbury – 6/5
  • Cambridge United – 11/8
  • Northampton – 13/8
  • Exeter – 9/4
  • Stevenage – 5/2

League One relegation prediction – Burton Albion at 11/4

The relegation scrap looks fascinating with Crawley heading the market after surprising many – though not themselves – at their play-off successes over MK Dons and Crewe.

They’ve got momentum with them and look short enough in a fight that could have quite a few runners, among them Burton, who were buried in the bottom four for much of last season, emerged from the doldrums before falling back to finish 20th.

The problem with betting on the relegation market is that sides who get off to bad starts – as Burton did – will change manager and that can lift clubs as it did when Martin Paterson replaced Dino Maamria at the Pirelli Stadium.

Paterson has since gone, replaced by Mark Robinson who earned mixed reviews with mixed results during his previous tenure in League One at AFC Wimbledon.

League One top-goalscorer predictions

Danilo Orsi at 40/1

Danilo Orsi enjoyed the perfect end to last season by helping fire Crawley to promotion – now he’s charged with the task of scoring the goals that keep Burton in League One.

Orsi had a 25-goal season with Crawley, signing off with a hat-trick in a 5-1 demolition of MK Dons in their playoff semi-final, and another in the 2-0 success over Crewe at Wembley.

Crawley knew he would be in demand and Burton paid a sizeable fee for the 28-year-old on a three-year contract and will expect a return.

He certainly looks as though he has something about him and immediately settled in with Burton with goals in pre-season, suggesting the step up won’t be a problem.

The Brewers have undergone a huge change in personnel and if Billy Bodin and the rest of their midfield can supply Orsi then he looks the type to find a few nets. He also looks a nice price in top scorer betting in League One at 40-1.

Jonson Clarke-Harris at 12/1

Coming with more guarantees than Orsi is Jonson Clarke-Harris at Rotherham.

The Millers, relegated from the Championship, were crying out for a decent frontman last season and new boss Steve Evans wasted no time in snatching Clarke-Harris from Peterborough.

The 30-year-old scored nine league goals for Posh last term but in a campaign in which he started just 16 games. The year before, in which he started pretty much every game in League One, he piled up 27 goals.

On just his second outing for Rotherham in pre-season he scored two in a 2-2 draw at Grimsby and looks like he is ready to fly.
