League One predictions and best bets for Saturday afternoon with 39/1 acca!

Born in the south east of Ireland, Simon put his life-long love of football to good use when he started a successful independent blog in 2010. That opened up an alternative route to a career in journalism, and having had work published across a number of sites and publications, Simon joined the staff at Spotlight Sports Group in 2018.

With international football put on the backburner until next year, domestic endeavours take centre stage, and there is a full complement of EFL fixtures spanning three divisions to look forward to this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, all 24 League One combatants will wage war between 1pm and 5pm, and with 12 mouth-watering third tier contests to sink our teeth into, we’ve dived into the stats to bring you the very best League One predictions and best bets.

We’ve narrowed our focus down to six fixtures that offer the most value in the betting markets, and combined they make up a fantastic looking 39/1 accumulator.

League One predictions, betting tips and best bets

Peterborough vs Blackpool

FST Predicts: Peterborough to win

League leading Peterborough are unbeaten at the Weston Homes Stadium this season, and the Posh should add another positive result to their string with a win over a Blackpool team that has been struggling badly on the road.

The Seasiders enjoyed just one successful trip in five attempts so far this term, and that solitary victory at second from bottom Burton was secured through a late Jerry Yates spot-kick.

Ipswich Town vs Shrewsbury

FST Predicts: Ipswich Town to win

Promotion hopefuls Ipswich have been a formidable force on their own patch this season, and Town’s 100% winning record at Portman Road in League One this term was accompanied by five clean sheets on the bounce.

Third from bottom Shrewsbury are without a win in six League One assignments, and the Shrews should find toppling the Tractor Boys at Fortress Portman a tough task.

Burton Albion vs Northampton

FST Predicts: Both Teams to Score

Burton Albion have seen both teams score in 80% of their matches at the Pirelli Stadium and in 75% of their League One fixtures overall so far this season, and goals at either end look probable again when the Brewers take on Northampton on Saturday.

Town scored four times and conceded twice when the last time they visited Burton for an FA Cup 3rd Round clash in January, and with both defences showing little improvement since, goals should be on offer for the teams again.

Gillingham vs Charlton Athletic

FST Predicts: Charlton Athletic to win

Charlton are on the charge after a run of six wins and six clean sheets in as many League One tests, and Lee Bowyer’s Addicks should have more than enough momentum to claim three more points at an out of form Gillingham side this weekend.

The Gills ended a sequence of five defeats and five matches without a goal in a narrow 1-0 triumph at Crewe last time out, though with confidence in their ranks still at a low ebb, a date with an on-fire Charlton outfit spells trouble for Steve Evans’s side.

Swindon Town vs Bristol Rovers

FST Predicts: Both Teams to Score

Two of League One’s current bottom seven meet at the County Ground, when Swindon Town host Bristol Rovers on Saturday in a tussle that promises goals at both ends.

The Robins saw goals fly in at either end in four of their last five fixtures, while both teams found the net in six of the Pirates’ last eight assignments in all competitions. With promising patterns to draw from, we anticipate goals being notched at both ends again.

Fleetwood Town vs Plymouth

FST Predicts: Both Teams to Score

Fleetwood and Plymouth can approach their League One skirmish on Saturday with confidence after promising recent runs, and momentum powering the sides, both Town and Argyle will be playing to win at Highbury Stadium.

With both teams going for the jugular in Lancashire, we expect goals to be plundered at either end. It’s also worth noting that both teams notched in three of Fleetwood’s last four games, while goals were hit by both sides in five of Plymouth’s last six matches – and we expect those trends to continue this weekend.
