This week sees the new league phase of the Champions League and Europa League come to a potentially thrilling end, with Wednesday and Thursday packed with 18 European games apiece, many of which are televised.
In addition, there is some midweek EFL action before the normal weekend schedule, so I have put together a six-day long accumulator starting on Tuesday, with each tip coming from a televised game so you can follow along all week!
Back our 48/1 Long Haul TV Special here!
Tuesday: Portsmouth vs Millwall – Sky Sports+, 20:00
Tip – Portsmouth to win
Recent wins over Middlesbrough and Stoke have strengthened Portsmouth’s survival prospects, and they can put some more distance between themselves and the drop zone in this midweek hosting of Millwall.
Pompey have taken 19 points from the last 21 available at Fratton Park, scoring 19 goals in the process, and they face a Millwall outfit with just two wins in their last 14 Championship fixtures.
Wednesday: Girona vs Arsenal – TNT Sports 4, 20:00
Tip – Arsenal to win
Six defeats in seven league-phase games have ensured that Girona’s Champions League journey will end on Wednesday night, and it’s likely to end in yet another defeat against an improving Arsenal.
The Gunners are all but assured of a top-eight finish and have won three of their last four in all competitions. Their 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb last week made it five Champions League wins and five clean sheets and the possibility of leapfrogging Barcelona into second in the table provides the motivation to inflict a fifth-straight European defeat on the struggling Spaniards.
Thursday: Rangers vs Union Saint-Gilloise – TNT Sports 3, 20:00
Tip – Both teams to score
Level on 11 points and both still in with an outside chance of either making the top eight or dropping out of the top 24, it is all to play for at Ibrox Stadium, and neutrals could be in for a treat.
Rangers have scored in all seven league-phase games in the Europa League but have just two clean sheets at the other end, while Union Saint-Gilloise’s win over Braga last time out made it three wins in a row, and both teams to score has landed in three of their last four in this competition.
Friday: Blackburn vs Preston North End – Sky Sports Main Event, 20:00
Tip – Preston North End win or draw double chance
Blackburn may be seven positions above Preston in the Championship table, but only five points separate the sides and the Lilywhites have been closing the gap in recent weeks.
The visitors come into this tie unbeaten in four games, including a weekend win against sixth-place Middlesbrough, while Blackburn’s defeat at Bristol City leaves them with just one win in their last nine second-tier assignments, with four of these failures to win coming against teams positioned 12th or lower.
Saturday: Nottingham Forest vs Brighton – TNT Sports 1, 12:30
Tip – Nottingham Forest to win
Nottingham Forest’s eight-game unbeaten run came to a crashing halt on Saturday as they were demolished 5-0 at Bournemouth, but they should be able to bounce back at The City Ground on Saturday.
The Tricky Trees remain in the Premier League top four and have won four of their last five at home, clinching positive results against the likes of Liverpool, Spurs, and Aston Villa in this period. Brighton lost at home to Everton last time out and could become the latest victims of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Sunday: Motherwell vs Celtic – Sky Sports Football, 15:00
Tip – Celtic over 2.5 team goals
Celtic’s midweek trip to Aston Villa will take priority for Brendan Rodgers, but The Hoops don’t need to be in top gear to inflict a thrashing on the majority of teams in the Scottish Premiership, including the out-of-form Motherwell.
The hosts have lost their last three games in all competitions and have conceded six goals across that period, while Celtic’s 3-3 thriller in Dundee leaves them 13 points clear at the top of the table. They have averaged 2.78 goals per game in the league this term and have scored three or more on 13 occasions.
