Massive 1,065/1 each-way double tip for this week's golf

The DP World Tour returns to continental Europe this week for the Open de France, which is staged at its traditional Le Golf National home just two months after the same venue played host to the Olympics.

The PGA Tour, meanwhile, will break new ground with the Black Desert Championship, the first tournament to take place in the state of Utah since 1963.

Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has taken a look at both events to put together an each-way double which pays out at a whopping 1,065/1.

Open de France prediction – Thorbjorn Olesen at 25/1

BMW PGA Championship winner Billy Horschel has extended his European autumn vacation to include the Open de France and he’s been chalked up as favourite at Le Golf National.

The Albatros Course, which sits just south of Paris, is hosting the event for the 30th time. It’s a tight, punishing track with undulating fairways. Keeping the ball in play off the tee tends to translate to success.

Horschel is well suited to this venue but that hasn’t escaped the attention of the bookmakers, so the better option could be to look elsewhere with Thorbjorn Olesen, who was part of the European team which won the 2018 Ryder Cup at this venue.

Olesen was a runner-up in the French Open in 2011, third in 2017, tenth in last season’s tournament and 14th at Le Golf National in the Olympics, when a host of PGA Tour heavyweights finished ahead of him.

The Dane also finished 12th in the Dunhill Links last week, comfortably his best result in that tournament since he won it in 2015, and he looks poised for another bold showing in Paris.

Black Desert Championship winner prediction – Michael Thorbjornsen at 40/1

There’s a distinctive lack of star quality on display as the PGA Tour makes its Utah return at the Black Desert Championship, where Keith Mitchell is favourite for the second consecutive week.

Mitchell let a golden chance slip at the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sunday and he’ll still be thinking about that near-miss when he tees it up at Black Desert, a venue which should prove easy pickings for the PGA Tour professionals.

This Tom Weiskopf design features wide fairways and large greens and there’s every chance an ultra-low winning total will be required, which is usually the case at Weiskopf courses like TPC Scottsdale, which hosts the Phoenix Open, and TPC Craig Ranch (The Byron Nelson).

A hot putter looks essential and promising 23-year-old Michael Thorbjornsen, who ranked seventh in strokes-gained putting when finishing in the top ten at the Sanderson Farms, fits the bill.

A decorated amateur who has immediately set about impressing in the pro ranks, Thorbjornsen finished runner-up at the John Deere Classic in July when he reached 24 under par.

He’s a potential star and his length off the tee ensures that he’ll be approaching the Black Desert greens from a shorter yardage than many of his rivals.
