If there was any doubt, Scottie Scheffler served confirmation that he’s the best golfer on the planet on Sunday, producing a rattling finish for the second time in successive weekends to retain his Players Championship crown.

Scheffler, now just 5-1 to win the Masters, takes this week off but the man who he hunted down at Sawgrass, Xander Schauffele, is in the field and sits atop the betting for the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship.

The DP World Tour returns from a week off at the Singapore Classic from Laguna National’s Classic Course, which marks the start of a five-event Asian Swing.

Valspar Championship winner prediction – Sam Burns at 12/1

Schauffele is the favourite to go one better than he did at the Players but the Californian has been brittle in contention and has to be taken on at Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course.

Copperhead and its infamous Snake Pit finish has played host to this tournament since 1990. It is traditionally a tough test of tee-to-green golf which suits those who churn out greens in regulation.

Of those closest to Schauffele in the betting, two-time winner Sam Burns stands out as the best option despite a couple of underwhelming weeks at the Arnold Palmer and the Players.

Burns adores Copperhead, where he has form figures of 12-30-1-1-6, and he was superb on the west coast, finishing sixth at the American Express, tenth at Pebble Beach, third at the Phoenix Open and tenth at the Genesis.

The Louisiana man hasn’t kicked on as expected on his beloved Bermudagrass but this could be the week when this prolific six-time champion returns to winning ways.

Singapore Classic winner prediction – Paul Casey at 14/1

A new sponsorship deal with Porsche has attracted a couple of big names to the Singapore Classic field with Shane Lowry and Paul Casey both on board for the second edition of the event.

Casey’s entry is particularly notable as this marks his first DP World Tour appearance since he signed with the LIV Tour and the Cheltenham man can mark the occasion with a first victory since the 2021 Dubai Desert Classic.

While Laguna National didn’t live up to its fearsome billing when Ockie Strydom won last year at 19-under-par, the course should still provide a tough all-round test and Casey has the long-game class to handle the layout.

He arrives in excellent form having finished fifth at LIV Las Vegas and second, beaten in a three-man playoff, in the Hong Kong event.
