Massive 434/1 golf double for Canadian Open & Scandinavian Mixed!

With the US Open just over a week away, five members of the world’s top 20 have decided to put the finishing touches to their Major preparation at the PGA Tour’s Canadian Open.

That number includes defending champion Rory McIlroy, who bids to win this tournament for the third consecutive edition, this time at Oakdale Country Club which hosts for the first time.

It’s a unique week on the DP World Tour with the return of the co-sanctioned Scandinavian Mixed, where Sweden’s LPGA star Linn Grant will attempt to follow last year’s nine-shot win.

Canadian Open winner prediction – Matt Fitzpatrick at 14/1

McIlroy is the obvious starting point in a Canadian Open field which lacks depth, but odds of 5/1 appear short enough and last week’s tame finish at the Memorial Tournament suggested his game is not quite where he needs it to be.

Matt Fitzpatrick will have one eye on his US Open defence but the Sheffield man will also want to head to California with a victory under his belt and this looks a good chance for him to earn another PGA Tour title.

Fitzpatrick, who also won the Heritage in April, has not quite been at his best this season but he recovered from a slow start to finish ninth at the Memorial, playing well from tee to green from Friday onwards.

His game remains perfect for old, classical golf courses, as he showed at Brookline last year as well as at St George’s, where he finished tenth before going on to US Open glory the following week.

Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed winner prediction – Ewen Ferguson at 28/1

Grant’s magnificent Scandi Mixed triumph showed that the best female professionals can compete in an event where both men and women play the same course off different tees.

However, she was the only woman to finish in the top 14 last season and two of the top 17 in the 2021 event were female, suggesting that a male winner remains much more likely.

Ewen Ferguson won the second of his two DP World Tour titles in the ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland last August, a similar contest where the men and women play alongside each other. Although that tournament has separate leaderboards, he should be comfortable with this unfamiliar format.

The Scot makes his Scandi Mixed debut in solid form after finishing eighth at the KLM Open and 14th at last week’s European Open.
