Portland v LA Galaxy
Best bet – Portland to win
Neither Portland nor LA Galaxy have made a strong start to the new MLS season and the pressure will be on for both to claim maximum points at Providence Park.
Despite losing their last three games, including a 5-1 loss at Atlanta last time out, it is well known that the Timbers are at their strongest at home and a shot-shy Galaxy is the perfect opportunity for them to fix their struggles.
Portland have lost only three of their last 15 home league games across this season and last, while Galaxy remain winless after their opening three fixtures this term and have netted just two goals.
Charlotte FC v New York Red Bulls
Best bet – Both teams to score
Charlotte FC claimed their first victory of the campaign in a 2-1 win at Orlando last weekend but they are yet to keep a clean sheet in four games this season, which suggests getting on goals is the way to go against New York Red Bulls.
The Red Bulls have taken five points from their four games after last weekend’s 2-1 victory at home Columbus Crew, but they have managed only one shut out so this looks like being an entertaining affair.
Columbus Crew v Atlanta United
Best bet – Atlanta Utd double chance
Armed with the excellent Thiago Almada, Atlanta United have made a blistering start to the new MLS season, taking ten points from four games to move top of the Eastern Conference.
With 11 goals scored and just three goals conceded, Atlanta have sent out an early statement to their rivals and they could be overpriced on their trip to Columbus Crew.
The Ohio hosts are strong on their own patch and were 2-0 winners when entertaining DC United in their only home game this term, but Atlanta already look a force and are value with the draw-no-bet option as a saver.
DC United v New England Revolution
Best bet – Over 2.5 goals
Three of the last four meetings between these two teams have finished 3-2 and another entertaining contest could be in store when they renew their rivalry at Audi Field.
DC United’s opening four games have seen 14 goals scored, while New England were beaten 4-0 at Los Angeles on their last away trip and are evidently far more comfortable on their own patch.
Inter Miami v Chicago Fire
Best bet – Inter Miami to win
Inter Miami won ten of their 17 home games last season and they have started the new campaign in similar light, recording comfortable 2-0 home victories over Montreal and Philadelphia Union.
And they can maintain their 100 per cent home record at the expense of Chicago Fire, who have failed to win any of their opening three assignments and were beaten 1-0 at Philadelphia on their only previous away trip this term.
Philadelphia Union v Orlando City
Best bet – Philadelphia Union to win
Philadelphia Union are always to be feared when armed with home advantage and familiar surroundings should ensure they get the better of Orlando City.
Phillie’s opening two home wins over Columbus Crew (4-1) and Chicago Fire (1-0) mean they have now triumphed in their last 13 league games on their own patch, having gone unbeaten in 17 regular-season home fixtures last term.
Orlando City lost their final four away league games last term, which includes a 5-1 thrashing in Philadelphia, and they were also held 1-1 at DC United in their first road trip this term.
Austin v Colorado Rapids
Best bet – Austin to win
Austin and Colorado played out a 1-1 draw on the final day of the regular season in 2022, but the hosts should have enough in reserve to claim maximum points this time around.
The Rapids have made a miserable start to the new campaign, taking just one point from four matches and managing only one goal which came in last weekend’s 2-1 reverse at home to Minnesota.
Austin have at least won two of their opening four assignments this season and they have lost only one of their last 26 home league matches in the MLS.
Houston Dynamo v New York City
Best bet – Both teams to score
Having lost 2-0 at Nashville in their opening game of the season, New York City have responded superbly with a draw at Chicago Fire and a pair of home wins over Inter Miami and DC United.
That said, Houston tends to save their best stuff for home turf and they were comfortable 2-0 winners when entertaining Austin last time out.
Both teams have scored in seven of Dynamo’s last nine home league games while that bet has also clicked in the last three MLS rivalries between this pair.
Sporting Kansas City v Seattle Sounders
Best bet – Sporting Kansas City double chance
Despite having taken just two points from their opening four games in the MLS, this could be a good opportunity for Sporting Kansas City because Seattle Sounders are considered poor travellers.
Kansas City drew their only home game of the season – a 0-0 draw with LA Galaxy – but they did win their final six home fixtures last term.
Seattle, meanwhile, have started the season well having collected seven points from four games. However, their only defeat came in their only away game at Cincinnati, meaning they have picked up just one point from their last ten away trips.
Minnesota United v Vancouver Whitecaps
Best bet – Both teams to score
Both teams have scored in all four of Vancouver Whitecaps’s MLS matches this term and the trend may continue at Minnesota United, who have also seen the net bulge in two of their three fixtures.
Interestingly, both teams have also scored in three of the last four league rivalries between this pair, so goals may be the way to go at Allianz Field.
Nashville v Cincinnati
Best bet – Under 2.5 goals
Nashville saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end with defeat at New England last weekend and they are no certainty to respond with victory over Cincinnati, who are yet to taste defeat this term in four attempts.
The best bet in this one could be to go under 2.5 goals. Each of Nashville’s four league matches have seen two goals or fewer while it ended in a 1-1 draw when these teams last met in the MLS.
Real Salt Lake v St. Louis City
Best bet – Both teams to score
St. Louis City have made a faultless start to what is their debut season in the MLS, winning all four matches and racking up 11 goals along the way.
Another win could follow at Real Salt Lake but goals look more likely to oblige. Despite their 100 per cent record, St. Louis City have conceded in three of their four wins while Real Salt Lake have seen both teams score in two of their three league outings.
It also means the hosts have seen the net bulge at both ends in six of their last seven MLS games across this season and last.
Los Angeles FC v Dallas FC
Best bet – Los Angeles FC to win
Reigning MLS Cup champions Los Angeles have continued where they left off, taking seven points from three games, and they should be too hot for Dallas to handle.
LAFC kickstarted the new campaign with a 3-2 win at home to Portland Timbers and their next home assignment saw them blitz past New England 4-0.
Dallas have also made a respectable beginning to the new campaign but, much like LAFC, are stronger on home turf and they should be fearing the worst at the BMO Stadium.
San Jose Earthquakes v Toronto
Best bet – San Jose Earthquakes to win
Home comforts ought to help San Jose past Toronto, who have been plagued on their travels recently and have failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 of their last 15 MLS games.
The Earthquakes have already taken care of Vancouver Whitecaps and Colorado Rapids on home turf this season and can add Toronto, who have leaked four goals across away games at DC United at Atlanta, to that list.
