Olympics golf betting tips & predictions

The men’s Olympic golf event suffered a blow when Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau were forced to withdraw due to positive Covid tests last week but this is still a high-quality field where several of the world’s best will fight for gold.

Beginning late on Wednesday night in the UK, a 60-strong field will take to the par-71 course at the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Tokyo.

Olympic men’s golf winner prediction: Hideki Matsuyama at 12/1

The men’s Olympic golf event suffered a blow when Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau were forced to withdraw due to positive Covid tests last week but this is still a high-quality field where several of the world’s best will fight for gold.

Open champion Collin Morikawa heads a strong US challenge featuring Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Reed, who has replaced DeChambeau in their squad.

Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood make up Team GB’s challenge at Kasumigaseki Country while Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry represent Ireland.

For the hosts, however, all eyes will be on Hideki Matsuyama, who looks ready to add a gold medal to the Green Jacket he claimed at the Masters in April.

The 29-year-old has Kasumigaseki experience – he won the 2010 Asia-Pacific Amatuer Championship by five strokes on the West Course and a Japan Junior title on the East Course – and a Covid-enfored break has given him ample time to prepare for a tilt at Olympic glory.

Olympic men’s golf outsider prediction: Corey Conners at 25/1

Corey Conners, a rock-solid ball-striker who is perfect for a golf course which puts emphasis on strong tee-to-green game, was in fine form earlier in the year and has finished tenth and eighth at the last two Masters, demonstrating an ability to compete with the elite.

He did so again at the Open, finishing 15th despite struggling to a final-round 73 at Sandwich, and can take advantage should the favourites falter.
