Welcome to our weekly feature Underdog Of The Week, where we salute the weekend’s biggest underdog victory. This week we’re casting an approving nod towards Roberto Martinez’s Toffees….
OK, fess up. How many of you had Southampton in your weekend accumulators?
Everton looked limp and leaky at home against new boys Watford on the first day of the season and faced Ronald Koeman’s Southampton, who were unlucky to draw against Newcastle the week before.
What’s more, the Blues hadn’t won at St. Mary’s in a decade and no one gave them much chance in the early kick off.
That’s why Betfair gave them odds of 4.33. But no winners came home this weekend with bigger odds.

Everton defended stoutly, giving handsome Graziono Pellè and his cohorts nothing to feed off at the back, and when they broke they really broke. Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley ran rampant over the sorry Saints defence to spoil many an accumulator – and make the day of thousands of travelling toffees.
Good work, lads.
