With the added spice of the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia to come this summer, there’s even more anticipation ahead of 2025 Six Nations.

The northern hemisphere’s annual international competitions returns, with reigning champions Ireland looking to become the first team in Six Nations history to win the title three consecutive years.

In what is predicted to be a wide-open tournament, the Irish will have a job on their hands to retain the title and break new ground in the competition but the men in green do look to have the players and the fixture schedule to finish top of the pile again this season.

Here are three selections ahead of the 2025 Six Nations to consider before the highly-anticipated action gets underway on Friday.

2025 Six Nations outright predictions

Ireland to win @ 7/4

With home games against England and France in their schedule, the cards look to be decked in Ireland’s favour this year for another Six Nations title.

Much will depend on Ireland’s opening game, as they begin life without head coach Andy Farrell for this brief time he’s focused on British & Irish Lions duty ahead of the summer tour Down Under.

Simon Easterby has been charged with leading this Ireland side into the Six Nations but don’t expect any shift from the game plan that has worked so well in recent years.

A winning start against England in Dublin should give Ireland the platform to build on for the remainder of the tournament and they are good value to retain their title this season.

Scotland to finish in the top 2 @ 9/4

Scotland are once again dark horses for this year’s Six Nations but with three games to look forward to at Murrayfield, the Scots can challenge for the title this term.

With two games at Murrayfield to start the tournament against Italy and Ireland, Scotland will be fully focused on making home advantage count.

Momentum is a key thing in the Six Nations and some positive results at the start of the campaign can give Gregor Townsend’s side confidence ahead of a trip to London, a home game against strugglers Wales and a visit to Paris on the final weekend.

While winning a maiden Six Nations title might be a bridge too far for the Scots this season, they are well priced to earn a top-two finish in the standings.

Duhan van der Merwe to be top tryscorer @ 10/1

Hoping to score the tries to help take Scotland to that top-two finish will be winger Duhan van der Merwe.

The Edinburgh flyer is battling with fellow winger Darcy Graham to be Scotland’s all-time leading tryscorer, with just one try separating the two men leading into the tournament.

With Van der Merwe just edging the try tally for the Scots, the 29-year-old is an attractive price to score the most tries in the Six Nations this year, having finished top of the try charts for the competition in both 2021 and 2024.
