The new Football League season is almost upon us so we have taken this opportunity to focus on SkyBet League Two. We have betting tips for the 2016/17 league winners, relegation as well as top goalscorer.
SkyBet League Two Winners Prediction
Portsmouth
It’s been a rough road for Portsmouth over the past few years as fans have watched their team fall through the leagues as their financial plight worsened. Finally the fans had enough and decided to take matters into their own hands when the supporters trust took ownership of the club.
They have cleared the debts and after a solid season last time out Paul Cook has laid the foundations for a genuine push at the title.
Pompey have already been active in the transfer market and the addition of Danny Rose in midfield and winger Milan Lalkovic will definitely help their title aspirations.
Other Contenders
Doncaster Rovers
It was only a few years ago that Doncaster were in the Championship and planning on a big and bold future, since then however they have been heading in One Direction and unfortunately for them that is down to League Two.
Darren Ferguson is tasked with reversing their fortunes and returning them back to League One and with the signing of Tommy Rowe and John Marquis he has sent a signal to the rest of the league of the Viking’s intentions.
Luton Town
Luton have boasted one of the highest budgets in the league over the last few years yet they have finished outside the playoffs repeatedly with fans critical of the defensive approach taken by former boss John Still.
Now they have Nathan Jones in charge and with the signing of Danny Hylton, who scored 29 goals for Oxford last term, Hatters fans will be confident that they will be more deadly up front.
Plymouth Argyle
Derek Adams has overseen a busy summer at Home Park as he has brought in 13 new faces to replace the players leaving the south coast.
Argyle enjoyed a strong start to the season last time out but faltered badly after the new year and eventually got knocked out in the play off final.
Preparations for the new season have been a bit hectic as it was revealed afterwards that the whole squad was out of contract which has subsequently seen the large turnover in players in and out of the door.
SkyBet League Two Relegation Betting Tips
Morecambe
Last season Morecambe enjoyed a strong start to the season as they found themselves with plenty of points on the board by Christmas and this became extremely important as they sank down the table to eventually finish just two places above the drop zone.
With an ever shrinking budget, key attacking players leaving and an owner who has expressed a desire to sell up this season could be the one that finally ends their 10 year spell in the Football League.
Morecambe’s survival last year came largely from their ability to outscore the opposition, but with top scorer Shaun Miller leaving and another year on the clock for veteran Kevin Ellison it remains to be seen if they are able to repeat the same trick.
Other Contenders
Crewe Alexandra
The lack of transfer activity at Crewe is something that is worrying their fans and with it looking increasingly likely that they will line up with largely the same side that was relegated from League One last season their concerns may be justified.
Steve Davis has brought in two experienced strikers so far and he will be hoping that his otherwise inexperienced side will improve on last season’s 30 point total as they bid to stay in the Football League.
Grimsby Town
After six years in the wilderness Grimsby Town have finally been promoted back into the Football League thanks to conquering Forest Green Rovers in the playoff final.
With the departure of last season’s top scorer Padriag Amond manager Paul Hurst has brought in several new faces in an effort to plug the gap.
With no fewer than eleven new faces it will vital that the team blends together quickly if the Mariners are to avoid a speedy return to the National League.
SkyBet League Two Top Goalscorer Prediction
Jay Simpson
After spending much of his career in the top two divisions Jay Simpson has spent the twilight of his career in the basement of the Football League pyramid and if last season is anything to go by then he still has plenty to give.
Simpson scored 25 times last season and finished as the runner up for the top scorer award last term so he will be hoping to go one better this time out.
Outside Chance
Padraig Amond
The fact that Grimsby Town are back in the Football League is thanks in large part to the goals scored by Padraig Amond.
Now at Hartlepool United the former Ireland Under 21 international will be keen to test himself at a higher level and knows that Hartlepool showed real signs of progression under Craig Hignett last season.
