Steven Gerrard: “Forget winning titles and closing gaps”
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard isn’t too convinced that his side can win any titles this season following their disappointing 0-0 draw with St Johnstone at Ibrox.
The Gers were unable to break the deadlock in a game that the visitors were more than happy to sit back and soak up the pressure, occasionally hitting their hosts on the counterattack.
Gerrard also didn’t hold back on the performance of his players, who had the chance to close the gap with league leaders Celtic and apply pressure on them before they face Kilmarnock on Sunday.

This latest result puts the Glasgow club at great risk of falling 8 points behind the league leaders.
“Forget titles and forget closing gaps. The reality is that if you perform like that across the board, in front of fifty thousand people, there’s your evidence…” the Rangers manager stated.
The Liverpool legend also acknowledged the other teams that are currently chasing the Ibrox club in the table- Aberdeen nd Kilmarnock- saying that they are “breathing down your neck”.
He also believes that what his players could have achieved today- closing the gap to just three points with Celtic- is “not what’s required at Rangers”.

Gerrard is convinced he picked a good enough side to defeat their opponents. “I believe we picked a team with the quality to beat St Johnstone if we play at an acceptable level. But it wasn’t acceptable”.
Debutant Glen Kamara- who initially signed with the club on a pre-contract before sealing his move late into the January transfer window- had a fantastic game, showing exactly why the Ibrox club were after him. The ex-Dundee midfielder proved to be a physical presence whilst also dictating in the middle of the pitch.
Rangers sorely missed star striker Alfredo Morelos, and there are also notable absentees in Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack. The Colombian striker often improves his sides’ overall performances when he’s on the pitch, and his absence was noted once again.
The Gers enjoyed the majority of the possession but were wasteful in the few times they were able to create chances, as they only managed one shot on target out of a total of twelve, whilst St Johnstone were able to get two of their six in between the three posts.
Rangers next fixtures is a crucial Scottish Cup quarter-final replay against Kilmarnock on Wednesday.
