Home Wins Long Haul Accumulator
Tuesday – Atalanta to beat Club Brugge
Club Brugge seized the advantage with a 2-1 victory over Atalanta in their Champions League play-off but the Serie A side can fight back when these sides clash on Italian soil on Tuesday.
Brugge are winless in four away from home, while La Dea have only lost three times in Bergamo since September. Atalanta’s home form in Serie A has been impressive with 24 points from 12 games and they should be able to at least take this tie into extra time.
Wednesday – PSV to beat Juventus
PSV were perhaps unlucky to fall to defeat in Turin in the first leg of their Champions League play-off with Juventus.
The Dutch outfit claimed 10 points from four games in Eindhoven during the league phase and haven’t lost at home all season in any competition, winning 14 of their 20 games – with the one blemish on their record a loss to Feyenoord on penalties in the Johan Cruyff Shield.
Juve have only lost one of their last 10 away but they’ve also only won two of those games. The visitors are a tough nut to crack but PSV have to go all out and they’ve got the attacking talent to outgun the Italian giants on Wednesday.
Thursday – Roma to beat Porto
Roma were unlucky to only manage a 1-1 draw in Portugal in the first leg of their Europa League play-off with Porto but they can get the job done in normal time in Rome.
The Serie A outfit are unbeaten in eight at the Stadio Olimpico and have won seven of those games, while Porto have struggled on their travels lately with three defeats in their last five away.
Friday – Burnley to beat Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday are in the middle of a rough patch with just two wins in their last eight and they could probably do without a trip to automatic promotion chasers Burnley on Friday.
The Clarets have won their last two at Turf Moor without conceding and are looking to extend a 22-game unbeaten run across all competitions, so they should be able to see off the out-of-sorts Owls.
Saturday – Plymouth to beat Cardiff
Plymouth and Cardiff meet in a crucial game in terms of the Championship relegation scrap in one of three early kick offs in this division on Saturday.
Cardiff won 5-0 when these teams last met in South Wales in October but much has changed in the intervening months, and Plymouth are a much better team at Home Park than they are on their travels.
Since that defeat, Wayne Rooney has been replaced by Miron Muslić as Argyle boss and they come into this game seeking a fourth straight home win. Plymouth stunned Liverpool in the FA Cup at this venue and thumped Millwall 5-1 in their last home league game – and they can see off a Bluebirds side who have managed just one win in 16 attempts on their travels in the Championship.
Sunday – Newcastle to beat Nottingham Forest
Newcastle were handed a beating at Man City on Saturday but they can bounce back when Nottingham Forest visit St James’ Park on Sunday.
Newcastle won the reverse fixture 3-1 and perhaps could have won by an even bigger margin. Eddie Howe’s men have six wins in their last eight at home and Forest come into the game after back-to-back away losses, so Newcastle should be able to boost their European hopes by beating a key rival to round off our accumulator.
