Tour Championship & British Masters golf tips with 1,425/1 double

The curtain falls on the 2024 PGA Tour season this week with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, where Sunday’s champion will take home the $25 million FedEx Cup winning prize.

There is also DP World Tour action taking place on these shores as the British Masters returns to the Belfry for the fourth consecutive season, where Tyrrell Hatton is among the big names in action.

Racing & Football Outlook golf tipster Joe Champion has taken a look at both events to put together a huge 1,425/1 winners double, which should be backed as an each-way bet.

Tour Championship winner prediction – Sam Burns at 30/1

The top 30 on the FedEx Cup standings head to Atlanta to tee it up in the PGA Tour’s season finale, the Tour Championship, where once again a starting-strokes system is in operation.

Scottie Scheffler, number one on the points list after a stellar year, will begin the tournament at ten under par with Xander Schauffele hot on his heels at eight under.

Hideki Matsuyama and Keegan Bradley, the winners of the first two FedEx Cup playoff events, sit three and four shots back with the rest of the field conceding between five and ten shots to the leader.

A winner of seven titles this year including the Players Championship, the Masters and the Olympics, Scheffler is a red-hot favourite but he has twice failed to convert from pole position in this event, finishing runner-up to Rory McIlroy in 2022 and sixth behind Viktor Hovland last season.

While it’s less than a month since he won Olympic gold, last week’s BMW Championship effort, in which he finished 33rd of 48 finishes, suggests that Scheffler is beatable, while he has not ranked inside the top ten in 72-hole scoring in his last three East Lake visits.

Schauffele, in fine form and starting second on the grid, is the obvious alternative but it’s Sam Burns who catches the eye for each-way punters.

The Louisiana man begins his Tour Championship bid from six shots back but McIlroy won from that position in 2022 and Sungjae Im started on the same score and finished a shot behind the Northern Irishman.

Burns finished ninth in the Tour Championship last season, carding the fourth-best 72-hole score, and he’s been in sparkling form over the last fortnight, finishing fifth at the St Jude and runner-up at the BMW.

British Masters winner prediction – Matteo Manassero at 45/1

Tyrrell Hatton rightfully claims favouritism in the British Masters following a series of solid efforts on the LIV Tour but the Buckinghamshire man, off in search of ranking points at the Belfry this week, looks on the short side in a competitive field.

It could pay to look elsewhere starting with Matteo Manassero, who is edging back to his best.

The Italian has returned to prominence this year, winning the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa in March and re-establishing himself as a regular DP World Tour contender.

While not as accurate off the tee as he once was, Manassero is a Wentworth champion who should relish the tight confines of the Brabazon Course, where precision has tended to trump brute power.

The 31-year-old Venetian was 18th at the Olympics last time out and is coming into a stretch of the season where he could really make waves.
