US Open predictions with 66/1, 28/1 & 20/1 tips
A tumultuous week in the world of professional golf ended with a grandstand finish on Sunday as home hero Nick Taylor holed a 72-foot putt to win the Canadian Open, and the drama looks set to continue when the 123rd US Open starts in Los Angeles on Thursday.
The announcement of the PGA-LIV “merger” sent shockwaves through the sport and will be the main talking point in the build-up to the third men’s Major of the year, but those who are aiming to contend at Los Angeles Country Club must block out the noise.
Where previously we had a big three, now we have a big four to focus on at the top of the US Open market, with Scottie Scheffler the favourite ahead of Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and US PGA champion Brooks Koepka, now firmly back to his Major-winning best.

US Open predictions
US Open winner prediction – Jordan Spieth at 20/1
LACC presents a dilemma for punters because it’s difficult to know what to expect from an exclusive Beverly Hills layout, which has largely been kept out of the public eye for the bulk of its existence.
First impressions suggest the course is wider than the typical US Open venue, putting added emphasis on approach play, while large run-off areas around the greens point towards those with sharp short-game skills.
With that in mind, it may pay to look beyond the top four, starting with Jordan Spieth who is exactly the type of creative performer who could take a shine to this one-of-a-kind layout.
Spieth won the 2015 US Open at Chambers Bay and that course was in some ways similar to LACC in that it was not the usual US Open layout.
The Texan has been in rock-solid form in 2023 without winning. He has chalked up six top-six finishes, including when fourth at the Masters and on his most recent start at the Memorial Tournament, where he drove the ball well and struck his irons superbly, confirming that he’s fit again after the wrist injury that hit his US PGA bid.
His recent US Open record has been poor for a player of his standing but LACC does not look anywhere near as punishing for errant tee shots and Spieth’s majestic skills around the green can see help him scramble his way to a fourth Major championship.
US Open eachway prediction – Max Homa at 28/1
Matt Fitzpatrick won the 2022 US Open at Brookline having starred there as an amateur and Max Homa has similar history at LACC, where he fired a course-record 61 in a Pac-12 college event in 2013 before going on to win the NCAA Championship.
Homa’s affinity with this venue, and his home state of California in general, is reflected in the odds but his record speaks for itself, with PGA Tour wins coming in the 2021 Genesis, both the 2021 and 2022 Fortinet Championships and most recently at Torrey Pines in January.
He’s simply a superior golfer in west coast conditions and while his 55th-place finish at the US PGA was yet another tame Major effort, that came in between top-ten finishes at both Quail Hollow and Colonial. This is his chance to deliver on the big stage.
US Open outsider prediction – Si Woo Kim at 66/1
When looking for top-quality approach play, Si Woo Kim also fits the bill. The South Korean has been firing on all cylinders with his irons, finishing runner-up at the Byron Nelson and fourth at the Memorial.
Kim has an admittedly poor Majors record to overcome but the biggest win of his career, the 2017 Players Championship, came at a firm, fast TPC Sawgrass. He’s likely to encounter similar conditions at LACC.
