Walking the tightrope: 327/1 Christmas Cards Premier League acca

Sports Journalist at FST, Gareth qualified as a journalist after graduating from university and spent over a decade as a freelance broadcast journalist, commentator and tipster before joining FST. Now living in Manchester, he is a long suffering Bolton Wanderers fan who also enjoys boxing, the NBA, tennis and rugby league.

There are a whopping 38 players in the Premier League who are one booking away from a suspension, meaning there may be a couple of players who will have to sit out the Boxing Day fixture list if they pick up a card this weekend.

I’ve had a run through the individuals in question and put together this 327/1 bookings accumulator ahead of the weekend games.

327/1 Christmas Cards Accumulator Tip

Tomas Soucek @ 4/1

West Ham vs Brighton

West Ham’s Tomas Soucek committed four fouls in his side’s last home game against Wolves but somehow escaped without a caution. The Czech midfielder’s luck may run out against Brighton, however, and he looks a decent candidate for a card ahead of Saturday’s games.

Soucek’s midfield partners Edson Alvarez and Carlos Soler were both booked against Bournemouth last time out, the latter is suspended for the visit of Albion as a result, and with a midfield battle likely it could be Soucek who ends up in the referee’s notebook.

Ryan Yates @ 11/4

Brentford vs Nottingham Forest

Brentford against Nottingham Forest could be a cracking game on Saturday as one of the league’s better travellers head to the team with the best home record in the Premier League.

Forest have only lost at Manchester City and Arsenal this term, while the Bees have only dropped two points at home all season.

For the visitors, midfielder Ryan Yates is one booking away from a ban and that card come at the Gtech this weekend. Yates averages 1.8 fouls per-game and he committed six in Forest’s win at Manchester United in their last away game without picking up a card.

Ryan Gravenberch @ 4/1

Tottenham vs Liverpool

Liverpool head to Tottenham needing a win after back-to-back Premier League draws but Spurs won’t make life easy for Arne Slot’s league leaders. The North Londoners have saved their best performances for the biggest games and there is always a chance things could boil over when these two meet (there were 16 cards across the two league meetings last season – two of which were reds!).

Ryan Gravenberch is an obvious contender here as two of his four bookings have come in his last three league games and he has three yellow cards in his last five games across all competitions.

Ashley Young @ 5/2

Everton vs Chelsea

Everton have shown some fight recently as they bid to pull clear of danger, with just one defeat in their last five games.

The Goodison Park club have managed four clean sheets during that five-game run and it’ll be all hands to the pump once again in defence when they entertain Chelsea on Sunday. Three of Ashley Young’s four cards have come in the last five games and he could end up picking up another booking on Sunday.
