      Aberdeen vs Fola Esch Predictions

Aberdeen are the clear favourites to win this tie but certainly shouldn’t underestimate their opponents as the top flight in Luxembourg is a bit stronger than many think and their sides regularly hold their own in the early qualifying rounds. Aberdeen made incredibly hard work of their 1st Qualifying Round match last season progressing only on away goals after a 1-1 aggregate draw with Macedonian minnows Shkendija and failed to win any of their 3 home games in the competition so they’ll be hungry to get an early win in at Pittodrie.

They’ll also be looking to firmly condemn their woeful end to last season to the history books. Having again pushed Celtic hard for much of the season, they really crumbled in the home stretch losing 5 of their final 6 matches and their last competitive match was a 4-0 home defeat against Ross County.

Therefore there is certainly some encouragement for the visitors here. Fola Esch were playing in the Champions League this time last year and they secured an excellent 1-1 draw away to Dinamo Zagreb but were beaten in the home 2nd leg. Something similar happened when they last played in this competition in 2014 when they drew 0-0 away to IFK Goteborg but lost the home match 2-0 so they do have real recent pedigree of getting results on the road in Europe.

They finished 2nd in their league last year and finished much stronger than eventual champions F91 Dudelange, who won it on goal difference. Of course Aberdeen have the better players and should progress over 2 legs but given their struggles at home in Europe last year and poor end to the last campaign you have to doubt whether they will really run away with this and with Fola Esch likely to park the bus it could be another frustrating night for the Scottish club. They should be able to break through but it’s unlikely to be a massacre and if you fancy a bet with big potential returns consider backing there to be under 2.5 goals at 16/5.
