AC Milan vs Lazio Predictions
- Both teams have scored in seven of AC Milan’s last 10 matches.
- While Lazio boast the joint-second strongest attacking record in Serie A, scoring 49 goals, their record of 39 goals conceded is comfortably the worst amongst Italy’s top eight.
- Both teams have found the net in four of Lazio’s last five away matches.
Milan and Lazio up for the cup
AC Milan and Lazio should both enter Wednesday night’s Coppa Italia quarter-final in great spirits; the Rosseneri’s huge Derby della Madonnina win reignited their hopes of a first Scudetto in over a decade, but they have not won Italy’s domestic cup since 2003, finishing as runners-up twice since. Lazio, on the other hand, have reached five cup finals in the last 13 seasons, winning three.
Lazio eliminated Milan at the semi-final stage before lifting the cup in 2019, and come into this game on a strong run of form, losing just one of their last eight games in all competitions, a narrow reverse at Inter. Lazio hammered Fiorentina 3-0 on Saturday, but their current run of four successive clean sheets is uncharacteristic. They have conceded 39 goals in their 24 Serie A games, far more than any of their top eight rivals, but have scored 49 goals, as many as AC Milan and only fewer than Inter.
AC Milan, for their part, will be buoyed by that huge win over their rivals, and should take the cup seriously after more than a decade without a major trophy. As mentioned previously, only table-topping Inter have outscored Stefano Pioli’s men in Serie A this term, but the Rossoneri’s defence has not been particularly solid in the long-term absence of Simon Kjaer; both teams have scored in seven of their last 10 outings.
Back both teams to net at San Siro
With Lazio on a strong run of form and having earned themselves a reputation as cup specialists in recent years, punters may be best advised to steer away from backing the hosts outright, particularly considering they’ve only won two of their last five home games.
Both teams have found the net in four of Lazio’s last five road trips, and considering the attacking quality on display, that should be the case again here.
Both teams required extra-time against lowly opposition in the previous round of the Coppa Italia, and we could be in for a late finish again here, with a 1-1 draw seeming a decent correct score prediction.
